Bowness is good place to take a short break.
Bowness is good place to take a short break. The ferry trip to Lakeside and the short train ride was most enjoyable and very good value. The first two days were warm and sunny, but inevitably it poured down on the last day. Bowness was busy and eating out is expensive. Our Hotel was Burn How within 5 minutes walking distance of the cruise ships. We took 2 trips on separate days, one to Ambleside to the north of Lake Windermere and the other longer trip south to Lakeside. There one could visit an aquarium and take a 15 minute steam train ride returning to Bowness on a later cruise ship. The only disappointment was that most eating places close at 5pm so the choice is therefore limited unless of course you have oodles of cash.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Location was good but hotel was very tired looking inside and out . Very busy town , lots of music /singers in bars near hotel So can be noisy . Bowness is a busy town , if your looking for a quiet weekend it may dissopoint . Suited us ,we enjoy the lively atmosphere. Several bars with quality live music , food excellent. Excellent base for exploring the wider Lakes, however Bowness is very beautiful in its own right! Lots of options to relax and entertain people of all ages. A wealth of dining experiences are available and the scenery is out of this world! Travellers with limited mobility may struggle with some terrain (unsurprisingly, lots of steep gradients), however there are plenty of places that are easy to get around, and public transport is fantastic. The people of the North West are lovely, friendly, and very welcoming. Food is varied, tasty and always generously portioned.
