Loved our visit to Bridgnorth first time visiting and will definitely be returning. Absolutely beautiful pubs and restaurants. All dog friendly. Lovely walks and historical sights to see. Great location were we stayed everyone was so friendly and helpful. Also had a nice little market there on Saturday. Had a drive out to iron bridge which was also beautiful. Had glorious weather so that was a bonus. Looking forward to returning soon.
We stayed in the cartway, we weren't really sure where it was when we booked. Of a weekend Bridgnorth is a location for lots of young people, they find Cartway easy pathway between high and low town. As we are older we stayed in evenings. Most people passed by with normal conversation levels but from about 1am till 3am we were kept awake by groups shouting and swearing as they passed by. On the Saturday evening about 9pm someone thought it was fun to hammer on the window and yell. We have all been young and if we went out of an evening it wouldn't bother us. It is just to be aware of things like this. I didn't reflect this in the rating of the property we stayed in as these are issues over which they have no control. Bridgnorth is a beautiful place to stay, maybe next time we'll know to book a little further from the centre.
Bridgnorth is a pleasant market town, The main attractions are probably the Severn Valley railway, with steam trips to Kidderminster, and the cliff railway, I believe is the longest inland cliff railway in England. Dudmaston Hall is an interesting stately home/garden nearby, and in Church Stretton not far away you have access to the hill country of the Long Mynd.
Worth going to the gardens where the leaning Castle is - beautiful gardens and interesting Castle ruins. Would recommend the Shakespeare pub along the road from gardens - food amazing - we had a lovely Italian meal. Another couple of pubs along from there, one of which as photos! Architecture around town is an interesting mixture of old and new. Nice Market with local produce worth going to. Best to park near Sainsbury's - public car park - only £3 for the day. Highly recommend a trip on Steam train at Bridgnorth and make sure you pop in Railwaymans Arms for a drink and a pork pie!
This as a very interesting and historical town. There is a lot of information about the buildings and people throughout the town on plaques. The castle gardens are beautiful and the views are amazing. The Severn Valley railway runs to Bridgnorth and it is a joy to see the steam train travelling along with people waving from the carriages. There are many lovely tea rooms and even more small pubs. There is also a choice of good restaurants.
Bridgnorth is a lovely place. Lots of character pubs, restaurants and beautiful buildings to explore. Easy access to stunning countryside and historic towns. Amazing views from Hightown down to river Severn, lovely walks in lowdown by river itself.
