Beautiful beaches saw lots of seals, you can catch the train to St ives it takes 5 mins or half a hour walk . Plenty of places to eat and drink . I only stayed over night so did not have time to visit museum and galleries. Planning to return
It was a perfect spot as there were restaurants close to where we were staying, Carbis bay beach was in easy reach and if you wanted to walk into St Ives it took about 30 mins . Carbis bay railway line was within easy reach and to tip it off the view are amazing. The buses run every 20 to 30 mins from St ives depending which company you travel with. You can't beat the view of St ives harbour and Hayle coastline it is second to none. The Gannet Inn is a lovely restaurant and we had dinner there twice and I would recommend the Haddock and chip, washed down with a nice wine, staff were really nice and friendly.
Loved visiting here. My maiden name was Carbis and my ancestors were apparently from this area. Despite very cold and wet weather it was still beautiful. I could imagine how stunning it would be in warmer weather. Public transport was excellent.
We didn't do a lot of walking and so found the bus invaluable to and from St.Ives where we spent most of our time. The hills were quite a challenge hence the use of the very good bus service but would like to recommend the taxi service - very reasonable.
Good spot on scenic St Ives Bay branch rail line with connections for main line at St Erth. Rail travel round Cornwall is reasonably priced. Uphill walk Carbis station to village but downhill to the beach. Good buses to St Ives, Penzance and the open top ride (summer) round Land End. Plenty of opportunity for walking on the cliff paths, with some healthy gradients. Spanish restaurant La Casita looks interesting; we shall try it next time. Becks fish and chip café was ordinary, a bit dated in style. Tesco at other end of village for a £3 meal deal. Beach area has been built up with high-end bar/restaurant/spa with prices to match, but attractive architecture. Make sandcastles, and have a paddle.
Carbis Bay beach and activities very good for families, but would be nice to have a bigger choice of eateries there. We were glad our accommodation was equidistant with St Ives where we ate out several times.
