There is plenty of history in Castle acre.

There is plenty of history in Castle acre. The castle & priory ruins are a must see. There are beautiful scenic walks to be had in the area & the old town is very quaint. I stayed outside the town & noted the ease at which you could access other parts of that part of Norfolk. The Ostrich pub is closed at the moment for refurbishing but my understanding is it will open soon.

Castle Acre was a short stroll from the Pig Shed where we were staying. The castle ruins & Priory were great for exploring & a wander up the river on the way back. Great fish & chip shop, shame the only pub in the village has shut but the local Spar shop sells take away draught ale & lager amongst many other things.

A quaint place with Castle and priory ruins run by English heritage. A Bailey gate into the village through very narrow streets. The village pub is currently closed but draught beer can be obtained at the local spar shop. It's a point along the Peddars way long distance walk.
