Delightful village with loads of fantastic places to eat. Short and long walks right on your doorstep and loads to explore in the local area. Castleton is a real gem. I have been before and will go again. Though roughly enjoy it every time we go.
Castleton is an excellent base for exploring the Peak District. There are a plethora of great walks from there, and several caverns to explore. We visited Treak Cavern when visiting and it was certainly worth the money, and an excellent view at the end. The car parking is a mix of paid and free, depending on how early you get there or how far you're wanting to walk. You can park round the church for free if you get there early, or on the outskirts there is some free parking, however the main car parks aren't too bad - £6 for 10 hours if I recall. There are several good pubs and cafes if you want to eat, and a post office that sells the basics. If you want more choice check out the Spar in Hope. It's worth noting that the tourist information centre is also very good, with a good range of quality gifts - not your usual tit tat. They also sell some art work and photography of the area, and have a cafe - though it was closed when we visited, I assume due to the Coronavirus.
Castleton is an old quaint village ideally situated for walking in the area. Extremely busy at weekends especially with motorbikes which were very loud sometimes going through the village. Good pubs, tea shops and some jewellers selling the local Blue John Stone. Local caverns which are interesting. Stayed at the Castle Inn - good location in the village and great food in the pub. Nice garden with view of the Tor.
Once we parked the car. we walked to the Treak Cavern for the tour we had already booked, our guide was informative, with humour and i got to polish my own piece of blue john stone which was a lovely keepsake, there was plenty of places to eat and drink, on the main high street, they all looked enticing, the hard bit was deciding. The walks with the views were amazing, though you need to be prepared for all the different weathers in an instant, we had hailstone, rain wind and sunshine, and sometimes all at the same time!!
Lovely little village in the peak district. Lovely walks for both the adventurous and relaxed walker. All of the pubs are very welcoming and lots of lovely tea and coffee houses. Will certainly return.
Lovely pubs, we stayed just before Christmas and it was lovely to walk along the road, calling in at each pub for a mulled wine. Lots of pretty Christmas lights and festive atmosphere, not too busy to get a drink or food but busy enough to feel welcoming and fun
Room ready from 11.30am Lovely owners and staff. Parking space. Clean room and nice new double bed. Plenty of beverages and milk in room. Good heating system and tv. Good shower and toiletries. Short stroll into centre of Castleton. Good bar but didn’t use. Good breakfast with choices. Booked this hotel for nights in April for a small group of ramblers.
Good location - walking distance to Perveril Castle, Castleton, Mam Tor. Excellent self-catering facilities with many cooking stations, working ovens and a large number of cooking utensils. Beautiful ground - kids enjoyed playing with the chickens and hens. Very helpful hostel team who resolved some initial problem.
