We spent a week at the Spread Eagle with the intention of it being our anchor for the Peak District. I would do it all over again, hands down. Chesterfield itself was a nice enough town but it wasn’t our focus so didn’t really think much about it. Lovely Park with walks, cafe, playground and a great little train for the Kids and the Young at Heart. Nice little town with national retail and independant shops. St Mary's Church is nice to visit too. There are two Wetherspoons and several Costa's/Caffè Nero's plus independently owned eating places too. This hotel is perfect if you want amazing food in a lovely location. It is quite central to a lot of walking trails, also some amazing walks from the hotel. Unfortunately we didn't see much of the town apart from a visit to Morrisons for basics/fuel and a visit to a take away Chinese that only took cash. Bed was very comfortable and had tea, coffee and bottled water. Really good spacious bathroom with walk in shower. Water took a little while to heat up but when it did it was nice an hot. Continental breakfast was very good - plenty of toast, crumpets, cereals, yoghurt, croissants, fruit, cake, fruit juice, tea and coffee.
