Hotel in Cinderford
Littledean House is situated in the Forest of Dean, a 4-minute drive from Cinderford. It is a family-run hotel in a picturesque Gloucestershire location. This is a lovely little hotel. We have family in the area and so have stayed on a couple of occasions now. The rooms are perfect for what we need, the beds are comfortable and the breakfast is delicious (lovely thick cut bacon and a good portion size). The pub downstairs is also great - we really like the decor and it has one of the biggest beer gardens we have seen, which is surrounded by beautiful countryside views. We will definitely stay again!

Boasting a garden, a terrace, and barbecue facilities, Peacock Cottage provides accommodation in Cinderford with free WiFi and garden views. Lighting was very good, pleasant garden front and rear, outside seating, quiet neighbourhood, ample parking and convenient location for the Forest of Dean. Note: Very narrow road access, slope up to property from parking and steep up to the top of the garden okay for us but unsuitable for small children or guests with mobility issues.

Cinderford is a small place but is within walking distance of the White Hart Inn, where we stayed. We found a couple of cafe's that are good for breakfast and lunch. Dinner in the evening can be an issue as places to eat are limited. The White Hart Inn do meals and while well priced are very big. There is an excellent curry house called Curry Leaf and a pub called The Golden Lion. The Golden lion has music on Friday and Saturday and the Nags Head has Music on Saturday. The only problem for us was that most places do not open until 6 or 7pm during the week. The White Hart Inn is usually open after 4pm since this is when guests can check in. I have no idea what time they open if no one needs to check in but seemed to be open for locals. You will need a car to get around but Cinderford is well located to main routes through the forest and access to the nearby towns. There are a number of bus services within the Forest of Dean but we are not sure how frequent they are. There is a map and information online although there can be issues with cell connection in areas of Cinderford.
Cinderford is ideal for visiting other places, we went to Ross on Wye, and lovely walks. We didn’t eat actually in at any restaurants in Cinderford as we only stayed two nights, except for fish and chips the first night, which was excellent.
The Pumping Station is a great place to stay which has access to the Forest from right outside the door. We ate at several places and particularly enjoyed The Miners Sling (Sling), the Red Hart (Blaisdon) and Ye Old Ferrie Inn (Symonds Yat). The milk direct from the farm at the Micheldean Milk Shed was terrific.
Cinderford itself has many food takeaways and some local interest - plaques, monuments, statues and a local cinema in the original building, which was great. It is central for a holiday in the Forest of Dean. The Forest of Dean has a great deal of varied interest set in the Forest; Go Ape, Lakes, Sculpture Trail, Puzzlewood, Canoeing, Views, Walks and Picnics. Coleford deli sell local cheese and wine and offer picnics to collect. There are many Castles in the area to visit, an Abbey and a Vinyard. I doubt you’ll be bored (though you might see a boar) and, despite not being on a walking holiday at all, I racked up 55 Km of walking over the week in incidental walking on easy paths that just happened.
Its an easy location for visiting the sculpture trail at the Forest of Dean at Beechanhurst and for visiting the Dean heritage centre which has a Gruffalo trail and a lovely lakeside walk with huge trees towering above.
We stayed in the Old Furnace and I would certainly recommend this property to any family looking for that bit of quality where they will be holidaying. It has everything that you need including an open plan kitchen and dining area, lovely walk in showers and clean beds. Can’t fault anything, the owners are very welcoming, friendly and helpful. You’ll be hard pushed to beat this property for its price. Thank you to Jill and Brian
