Currie is a good base, it has quite a few parks and the Herriat Watt University is just a short walk, it has lovely grounds that stretch for miles, lovely to walk round, Currie is a small village but the people are very friendly.
Lovely place to stay, just outside Edinburgh with bus stops just outside the place we stayed, this makes it easy to travel round and see the sites that Scotland has to offer, Heriot-Wat university is just down the road and has a lovely campus the public can walk round, it has a tree trail which is very interesting, it has a lot more to offer and see, you can pass a few hours just walking and looking around, although Currie is quite a small place it has a lot to offer.
Currie is on the 44 bus route from Princes St in Edinburgh to Balerno . The journey in takes between 25-35 mins depending on traffic. Local bus service is good but you need correct change for fares as no change given on the buses. Fare was 1.60 pounds a single journey or a day ticket can be purchased for 4 pounds. All in all we had a good two nights there though because of the timing of our activities we didn't eat at the pub. A qui night on a Tuesday evening means reserving a dinner table is advisable as it is very busy but the fire doors kept the bar noise at bay .
We didn't spend much time in Currie as we were only there for one night, but it seemed like a nice area with various shops dotted along the main road. The bus service was fairly decent but I cannot comment on anything else as we ate in our hotel.
As our first stop in Scotland, we drove easily from the airport to Currie which to us seemed to be on the beltline around Edinburgh. Public transportation to Old Edinburgh was great. One evening we walked to the Riccarton Inn on Lanark Rd. for a delightful traditional Scottish supper.
Currie is a nice place just on the fringe ;-) of Edinburgh, countryside on one side and city on the other, good transport links into town or elsewhere. It has changed a bit over the years but mainly for the better. You can do some fantastic walks from here into the hills or along the old railway route.
