Blackwell Grange Hotel, hotel in Darlington

From the moment you catch a glimpse of the wonderful 1693 Georgian façade, you know you are somewhere special.

overall the hotel was good for a couple of nights stay. but it does eed to improve its food offering. Breakfast while a good selection, individual items were disappointing. there was only sliced white or brown bread, jams/marmalade were in small containers, coffee was out of a machine and not very good. the dinner menu lacked imagination and tried in its limited way to appeal to those who liked burgers and pizza and those who preferred something more interesting. We felt overall it could and should do better.

Houndgate Townhouse, hotel in Darlington

Thought to date back to the 1770s, Houndgate Townhouse provides an elegant setting for luxurious en suite accommodation in central Darlington.

Fantastic building sympathetically decorated to feel contemporary whilst respecting the period building. Room was super comfy, bed was fantastic. The cooked breakfast options are many and it was freshly made - so allow some time for this. I had veggie cooked breakfast which was hot, delicious and very filling. Multi storey car park on the back of the property and was only £2 for the night.

Undiscovered gem of a town with some beautiful architectural buildings, especially of the Georgian era. Spacious centre with a good range of independent shops and a lovely covered market. Very walkable distance for the main railway station with frequent trains to London and Scotland.

I used to live here so only visiting family, unless you are here for the railway heritage there is not a lot to see in the town, but it is like most towns that we visit empty shops a sense of depreciation everywhere.
