Downpatrick town was uninspiring but the food from Murphys Bar was tasty ,wholesome and cheap (and far more than we could eat!!) Easy reach of the Tulleymoor Forest - we had a wonderful 16K walk around taking in the spectacular Mourne scenery and some of the most magnificent trees I have ever seen. Downpatrick was the perfect location for exploring the surroundings - Mount Stewart, Rowallane garden, Inch Abbey and Kearney Village. The town itself is rather bland, with very few options for a nice meal out. St.Patrick's Centre is worth a visit though! Visit the museum up the road from Denvir's coaching inn. We spent a very enjoyable 2 hours or so there. After call in to the cathedral. It's really lovely. St. Patrick's grave is in the grounds. Have a drink in a 'local'. ...the Mirabelle (not sure of the name exactly) around the corner from Denvir's. The landlady is very friendly and welcoming.Guest review byMaryIreland - 10.0

Downpatrick is a quiet quaint town.
Downpatrick is a quiet quaint town. It is between Dundalk and Belfast. It is a nice two days, one night stop or just an overnight stop. It's also not far from Strangford where Castle Ward where part of Game of Thrones was filmed, specifically the Winterfell Castle.
