The dairy-free provision at breakfast, didn't expect that at all. What a treat (I'm lactose intolerant and normally there aren't alternatives).

Excellent accommodation. We were upgraded to the private annex as it was our honeymoon which was a lovely surprise. The room was light and airy and very spacious. Warm welcome by Freda(?) and little Faith! Cooked breakfast the next morning at £5 per person was fabulous - plenty of choice and delicious. Easy 10 minute walk to most of the restaurants in Dumfries. Good, quiet location.

A town that is down on its luck but a lot going on to improve it at the moment. And it's a stronghold of Robert Burns history as well as being handy for some excellent countryside, coast, hills, etc. Great mountain-biking trails. A couple of really good places to eat (check out something fine at the Globe Inn).

The area is convenient to a beautiful castle ruin and nice birdwatching reserves on the River Nith. There were some restaurants in the town, but we had delicious dinner at the Friars Carse which is also open to non- hotel guests for dinner.

Dumfries is useful as the nearest big town, but we spent all of our time in the smaller towns and countryside: KIrkcudbright and Gatehouse of Fleet are both compact with good cafes and restaurants, and adequate shopping. It's a beautiful rural area with rolling hills and woods, many lovely bays and a dramatic coastline, with views over to the Lake District and to the Isle of Man in good weather. Perfect for a gently energetic holiday - walking or exploring the shoreline.

    Interesting historic town.

Interesting historic town. Well sign posted for getting around and also in and out of the town by car. Nice area down by the river. Would recommend the Cavens Arms for a meal - very good, and the pub has won various awards,.

Burns' House; The Globe inn; the riverside walk. At the Italian restaurant, Bruno's(?) 2 minutes from The Caledonian hotel, but book in advance. sadly, many of the shops are closed or are used as hair dressers, nail bars and unhealthy food outlets but we did not try the shopping centre.

Dumfries is walkable and attractions are well sign-posted.

Dumfries is walkable and attractions are well sign-posted. For Rabbie Burns enthusiasts, the various stops on the Burns Trail are free. The camera obscura in the museum was a highlight for me. The Crichton is worth a visit; I had no idea it was there before arriving. La Dolce Vita was great for an Italian dinner with generous portions. I'd recommend The Cavens Arms for meals as well - excellent fish and chips!

Lovely family run hotel where the owners really care about guests. We ended up staying not out of choice but because our car broke down and we had to find somewhere nearby at last minute together with piles of Christmas presents, luggage and our dog. The owners and their son went out of their way to help and provided dinner despite the fact the kitchen was closing. Room very comfortable, spotlessly clean and the breakfast was wonderful. Would not hesitate to stay again if in the Dumfries area

The hotel has just recently opened after a refurbishment and the rooms were both comfortable and stunning. The staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent and it was ideally situated for accessing Dumfries town centre but far enough out to be quiet and peaceful. We’ll definitely stay here again if we’re ever visiting Dumfries or the surrounding areas.

Riverview had everything you could need, a true home from home and a lovely base to explore Scotland. Lovely to look out over the river and a brilliant park just outside for early morning dog walks. Great location for getting out doing some walks and good restaurants very close. The welcome pack was a lovely touch especially treats for the doggo. Thanks for a great stay

The breakfast was first rate, we have stayed here previously but due to the current covid situation we found the hotel and staff reassuring, confident and fully aware of the need and provision for well appointed sanitisation stations. Overall the attention to detail put nervous travellers minds at ease. Absolutely fantastic thankyou so much.

We had a wonderful stay here and would highly recommend this hotel. The owners go above and beyond to welcome you and make you feel at home. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is one of the highlights. We look forward to returning for more than one night next time.

We needed a Pet Friendly guesthouse in Dumfries for the two of us and our Rough Collie dog for a night. Aderdour was perfect. Amanda made us welcome and gave good advice on where to walk our dog and where we could take our dog with us to eat out. Breakfast was a treat too. No hesitation in recommending.

A hotel with better amenities than most accommodation in Dumfries. It's great to have an extra heater in the room. It was a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Having a bar in the lobby of the hotel is also a very good opportunity. You can sip your drink in front of the fireplace.

The hotel was a pleasant place to stay over for our stop over in Dumfries. The bed was fine and the room was warm enough. We were pleased to be able to leave our car in the car park between checkout and leaving Dumfries.

The hotel itself is a comfortable mansion. The interior decoration is good. I wholly sympathise with the fact that the extension started inCOVID isn’t finished and is a disfiguring problem to the site - but it exists!
