Located in Edzell, Oakbank - Comfort in the Glens features accommodations with a patio and free WiFi. The accommodations is 14 mi from Montrose. Loved everything about oakbank.....kitchen stocked with every utensil you need. Bed linen was lovely, comfy beds, great location
Quiet but friendly small town. Good evening meals available at the Glenesk and Panmure hotels and morning coffee can be had across the road at Sinclair's Larder. The ice cream shop just below Oakbank also looked nice though we didn't try it. We also wanted to try the restaurant at the Caledonian hotel in nearby Brechin, because they had a much better vegan and vegetarian menu than either of the Edzell hotels, but it happened to be the last day of 'eat out to help out' and we couldn't get a table. We were there for a getaway in the countryside and Edzell was perfect for that. Somehow, we managed to get lucky and timed our holiday to coincide with four lovely sunny days after a very wet and windy August. We went walking every day. From the property, you can walk easily to the 'Shakkin Brig' or take a longer walk along the river gorge to the Rocks of Solitude. We also drove short distances to walk to a waterfall in Glen Mark and to see the Iron Age hill forts at the Caterthuns near Brechin. On the way home we stopped at Lunan Bay to walk along the beautiful sandy beach before driving to Arbroath for lunch at the Harbour restaurant.
I had no real expectations of Edzell having never vissited before. I thought it was full of character and had good facilities. It is surrounded by lovely and unspoiled countryside. I look forward to my next visit and having more time to explore.
A charming little village in pleasant surroundings experienced on Gala day. Lovely walk to castle and gardens. Interesting little shops and friendly locals. Edzell not far from other places to visit within Angus.
Lots of interesting places to visit with in easy reach, although a car is necessary. Very pretty and well kept. If self catering, the local spar is friendly but doesn't have the vast range of one of the supermarkets...but Edzell isn't really a big supermarket place and all the better for that. I made it in 2 hours from Edinburgh although A90 through Dundee can be a real pain.
Typically Scottish hospitality in a very attractive building. Beds and pillows very comfortable, lots of areas to sit and chill out. They serve food all day and we found it delicious. The staff were so obliging. We left Sunday morning and breakfast is usually served at 8.00am, we had to get away earlier than that, so a lovely man there opened up for us at 7.00am AND cooked me a hot breakfast!!!! AND with a SMILE on his face!!! So kind. The town is very small but lovely. Montrose and Stonehaven are large towns not too far away!!!!
This town was great. Quiet yet not empty. Wonderful accommodation, lovely people, and quiet close to the things I wanted to see and do. I stayed at the Glenesk Hotel, which was marvelous, I highly recommend it. The church across the street seemed to be having an issue with it's bells. They were ever so slightly out of tune. Charming though and not so loud it was at all disruptive. I was right across the street and they never bothered me indoors.
Location, a great village atmosphere, walk to the golf course👋
