We found Fakenham to be very central to the areas we were visiting. There is a Gas Museum which we would liked to have visited but it wasn't open on the days we were there, so best check opening times. There are several pubs and restaurants although we were very happy to eat in the Pub/Hotel we were staying at. Our favourite place during our visit was to Walsingham. We visited the old prison, we had to open it up and go around by ourselves a bit errie, but very interesting, then the Abbey Ruins, Court House and Shrine. A truly wonderful place to visit for peace, calm, beauty and lots of history, just remember not to go on the Pilgrimage days if you want peace and calm! The pub in the village centre does wonderful meals especially with the local crab.
A pleasant town (that is easy to navigate) with some good shops and an interesting market that is well worth a mooch around. There is also a splendid riverside walk along the river Wensum. The town is nicely situated for driving to the Norfolk coast.
Fakenham was a good base for the seaside and other places. The town was disappointing as we thought it was going to be a small market town and it has sprawled out. The best place to eat was The Hourglass in Sculthorpe.
Fakenham is an attractive compact little town a few minutes walk from The Wensum Lodge Hotel. If you're after inexpensive good pub grub there is a Wetherspoons about 100 yards from the hotel. We used the hotel as a base to visit Wells-next-the-sea and Sandringham.
Fakenham is a small quiet town - I was there purely for a wedding. The place I stayed was very friendly, but the town has only a couple of restaurants and not much else. Unless you like museums about antique gas lighting. Then it's just the place for you!
Lovely little market town not too far from the coast, market day is Thursday and very busy. You can walk around town with ease. Close to Sculthorpe Nature Reserve excellent place to visit, disability friendly.
