Boasting garden views, Silhouette Cottage offers accommodations with a patio and a kettle, around 3.1 mi from Puzzlewood. The cottage was very comfortable, warm, clean and had everything you need. Michelle was easy to contact and helpful when I made a call about the heating and phoned later to check all was ok. A cake to welcome us on arrival was a lovely touch. The countryside and woods around the cottage are wonderful. We went for different dog walks each day without the need to take the car anywhere, it remained on the driveway for all of our 3 night stay which was great.

The rooms were clean and beds comfy, clean towels in bathroom, tea, coffee etc and kettle. Bar area in need of redecorating as to the furniture. Bar snack menu was ok but the main menu was limited and the food seemed to be rushed and was quite bland, chicken was tough without flavour but the sauce was ok.
Attached to the golf club (parkland 6200yards) bowling green and e bike hire centre, rooms make use of clubhouse for catering. A comprehensive meat biased menu provides reasonable quality and priced bar food, breakfast far better quality. Lovely setting and Coleford is in a wonderful part of the Wye Valley. Rooms fair size and clean.
Very noisy with golfers in the bar until late Walls between bedrooms not sound proofed so heard lots of talking, tv, and bathroom sound One of the beds had springs coming up through the mattress which caused a sleepless night for my wife Other than the above as we were only staying one night proved adequate.
We were there for a wedding at Clearwell castle but it was impossible to get a taxi booked to take us to the venue and back! We had to drive there and leave our car overnight, and on the morning of the wedding we managed to get hold of a taxi to collect us in the evening. Most were impossible to get hold of even the one whose message said it ran 24/7.
Didn’t visit Coleford. Stayed on the Forestry Commission land throughout. That was beautiful. Mallard’s Pike, Beechenhurst (& Sculpture Trail), Speechouse Lake, Cannop Ponds, Woorgreens Nature Reserve, Cyril Hart Aboretum can all be reached on foot from The Speechouse Hotel. We parked the car at the hotel and did not use it.
We know the area well and chose to travel there as there are miles upon miles of forest trails to follow. The Speech House is a great location for walkers, cyclists etc and is well placed for visiting the surrounding attractions.
Coleford
There was a warm and informative welcome from Tony the host and a lovely care package that included milk, eggs, bread, cereal, jams etc. There wasn't anything they hadn't thought of. The apartment was stunning and very clean. Lovely comfy beds and a super location in Coleford. Easy to get to all the main routes to just about anywhere in the west country. We will definitely be booking again as there's still so much of the area to see and we couldn't have wished for a nicer place to call home for a week.
Coleford
Best thing was the view from the conservatory - it is exceptional! A lovely, cosy bungalow, perfect for exploring the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Only a few minutes from Coleford, Monmouth and Symonds Yat. The main double bedroom is spacious, as is the comfortable lounge. The kitchen is bright and roomy and equipped with all the utensils you could possibly need. There is a large garden at the rear with a high and wide deck.
Nice airy room, the space was well enough for the two of us. The view was nice, especially at sunsets. We preferred the hotel's location being on the hill rather than in the town centre, this makes it really quiet. The reception staff is polite and have a few nice words to you even when they're busy. All in all, provides a good value for the money.
Coleford
Lovely secluded Cottage in a village setting. Everything you could want was provided. Beautiful grounds with several places for sitting in the sun. 5 mins drive to Coleford for supermarkets, shops and takeaways. Further 5 minutes for Forest attractions such as Beechenhurst, Cannop Ponds, Cyril Hart arboretum and Speech House. Excellent location.
We were visiting a relative in Coleford, for us the location was perfect only being less than 10 minutes away. The food : Evening Meal was excellent, full of flavour, well cooked and hot. Breakfast Full English using locally sourced foods was superb. Room and En Suite was clean and comfortable. Will definitely book again.
The Speech House is a wonderful place to stay in a stunning location - cosy during the winter and gorgeous in the summer. The hotel is a historic hunting lodge with comfortable rooms and both a restaurant and bar for food and drinks.
