Cute little town on the south end of Loch Ness. It's quite in the mornings and evenings but gets very busy over day with day tourists by the bus load. Fort Augustus definately worth a visit although gets very busy with tourists. We appreciated slightly quieter places with less people around. There are a few places to eat out and would recommend the Chinese food at the Richmond House Hotel where we were staying. A good range of dining and things to do.
A good range of dining and things to do. Prices are a bit high but expected. Most things are within a short walk of anywhere, and there are many scenic views as we were surrounded by hills and bodies of water. Most shops close 6-8 pm but we found 1 restaurant serving food until 9pm and another serving until 9:30pm. There is one petrol station which also has a gift shop and a mini grocery store and pharmacy. Monster Fish and Chips was excellent!!!! Highly recommend it! Room was comfortable with good amenities. Breakfast was good. Location was ideal, on edge of Fort Augustus literally a 1 minute drive if that into town. The town is pretty and given size has a selection of places to eat. We had a great meal at The Boathouse which has a beautiful location on Loch Ness. Easy to walk on to the Great Glen way and in a very picturesque location. Bus services in the area are reasonable and that makes a one way walk out and travel back reasonably easy.
