Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow combines Victorian architecture and a vibrant arts scene. A former European City of Culture, it is home to many national organisations including the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. The museums are also world class. Not to be missed are the futuristic-looking Glasgow Science Centre and the eclectic exhibits at the Kelvingrove.
Lined with Georgian buildings, George Square is the city’s focal point and the spot for Glasgow Hogmanay celebrations. Fanning out from here are streets housing venues for the city’s main love: music. From classical concerts to up-and-coming bands, every taste is catered for.
As host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is also a city of sport. Scotland’s 2 most iconic football clubs - Celtic and Rangers - are based here, as is the national football stadium Hampden Park. The Scottish Football Museum is also an excellent walk through the beautiful game.
Last but not least is the shopping in Glasgow. Shopping centres cover everything from high street brands to international designers. So when you fly into Glasgow Airport, make sure you’ve left enough space in your bags!

wasn't expecting much to be honest, but had a great 4 days break in town. we found the places to be welcoming to families and had a great time wandering around, we had good meals, we found (not all) people from glasgow nice. Parks are nice (if weather is ok). we found a nice pastry shop. we used only bus and walking to move around, it was ok.
We stayed 4 nights and travelled by train. Enjoyed our time but will not return. It seemed dirty. The pavements are just full of old chewing gum. Lots of drunks and no police. Never actually felt threatened though. Great places to eat and museums are amazing. My advice is go but stay in the West End.
Glasgow is an ideal short break destination or a base from which to tour Scotland. People were extremely friendly and helpful and the place, of course, has a lot of character. But do your research before you arrive as it's a big city. The bus system is not easy to conquer but the famous 'clockwork orange' underground is a life saver as, although there is only one circular line, it reaches out to the suburbs. I hate to admit it but it's the one place in the World where 90 minutes spent on the tourist bus - £15 for a day tickets from George Square - gave us ideas of what we wanted to explore. Go a little further and the Burrell Collection set in beautiful parkland 10 minutes on the train from Glasgow Central was top of our memory list.
Ridiculous ULEZ zone that you have no option to pay a penalty to enter, instead you are automatically fined £60 for entering it. No warning from hotel that these regulations are in force. I want to cut pollution, but can't afford a new car, so now can't afford to visit Glasgow! Oh well, there are other plenty of other places, so good ye Glasgow, never again.
Scotland is one of my favorite places I've visited. The people are charming and warm. So very friendly and a ton of fun to hang out with. The city is great, we walked everywhere! The countryside is breathtaking. I wish I had more time to spend there.
We intended to stay another full day, but the train strike meant we only had one afternoon and had to get off in the morning. So our trip was very short, but our impression was that Glasgow has some nice areas dotted about and it's best to plan ahead what you want to aim for. We used the 'Inner' line underground train to go to Hillside (not expensive), which had a nice couple of vintage shopping opportunities - and eating venues galore. We had a great curry in the cobbled lanes.
North West, Glasgow
The staff - well, Nicky- was excellent. She was a great, friendly host and made us a lovely breakfast. The hotel is in a great location in the west end of Glasgow- just beside the botanic gardens (and loop and scoop- an amazing ice cream and churros place!) and close to the University too. Good bus and subway links to the city centre for shops and bus station. Room was good, and the newly refurbished bathroom was lovely. Very reasonable price for the quality and location :)
Fantastic stay. Location is wonderful. The bathtub was absolutely wonderful. So far this hotel has been the very best I have stayed at on this journey. I'm on my third hotel in three days :). I could not make up my mind for Glasgow when booking and so happy I finally decided on Voco Grand Central. I will stay there every time when in Glasgow and will look for their brand for other locations as well. The staff is also exceptional. The entire experience lovely.
Glasgow City Centre, Glasgow
I liked the new and clean room. The location was ideal for Glasgow Central. It was handy for my work trip. I liked that the room was much larger than similar hotel rooms. I found the bed comfortable, I never sleep well in hotels to begin with and I didn't notice any difference in the amount of time I slept in a hotel, which is usually less than at home. Even though I didn't end up using it, I liked there was a kitchen which had everything you would need.
The room was clean comfortable and quiet which was a surprise as it is in a busy part of Glasgow. We could make a cup of tea or coffee. The shower worked well and the water was hot. The grout needs cleaning inside and around the base, but it wasn't too bad. For a city centre hotel the price was very competitive. The staff were really pleasant, halpful and professional in all areas.
We liked everything about our stay. Specifically we need to point out how great all the people of the staff were. Very helpful and informative. They even agreed to store my bag at the hotel while I was walking the West Highland Way. Because they were so nice we stayed twice (three nights) in this hotel during this vocation and will definitely stay again when in Glasgow.
The staff were friendly and accommodating. The property is in a great location close to UG, Kelvingrove Park and Museum, and the great shops and restaurants of the West End. it was also a 20 minute walk to City Centre. The hotel was a little run down but very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful!
Excellent little hotel with a great location close to all city centre amenities and opposite Central Station. Staff were helpful, cheerful and could not be faulted. The little hotel bar area and rear outdoor seating area are an asset on a steamy Glasgow summers evening.
Comfortable bed & pillows in a good sized room. Car park, with discounted parking, right across the road was very handy for central Glasgow. Good price for city centre hotel in good location.
Superb stay in Glasgow And staff were truly amazing Chris from Front office At the Grain & Grill Cynthia Lee (Clayton Hotel staff in her last day at Maldron) Maria from Housekeeping
