We went to Glasgow specifically for the Macintosh experience. - We went to the Macintosh tea rooms in Buchanan Street as the Sauckiehall Street venue was closed for refurbishment. We had intended to go to the Burrell collection but were advised it had closed (early) for a four year refurbishment. We went to the Hunterson Museum at Glasgow University as well as other notable places. Chief of these was a visit to Hill House in Helensburgh which Macintosh built and completely furnished for Mr Blackie, a well-known Glasgow publisher. A superb house with excellent, knowledgeable guides. We also visited Glasgow Cathedral and St Mungo's House - again with excellent guides. One evening we ate in the restaurant at the Dakota Hotel - the food was extremely good. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel: instead we found a lovely little café/tea room - The Butterfly and Pig in Bath Street. Glasgow is very hilly - but with many very fine buildings so always something worth looking at.
If you are only staying for one night as it's for to see a show at the SECC HYDRO but don't want to take the car plus if you wish to have a meal and brink before the show this hotel is great for the location as taxi's to the Hydro or restaurants are cheap only from £5-£7 depending on where you pick to go for a meal, it's more convenient if you pick the LaRonda restaurant as you can eat drink and walk to the hydro then taxi back to hotel and make a day/night even do some shopping before you leave the NCP the allocated car park for hotel for 24 hrs parking £12 you leave the NCP car park before the 24 hrs are up so take note of time of arrival which should be 15.00 check in time at hotel to 12pm check out time as your car park is paid 24hrs so you have until 2.45pm to drive off. Enjoy your stay at the Holiday Inn Express Riverside Hotel it's very welcoming and cheap.
The front desk staff are welcoming.Relaxing atmosphere from the moment you walk in. easy check in.The room was comfortable and we were offered an upgrade from a king bed to two singles which suited me and my daughter better.so thanks to the front desk staff for offering this to us made our stay more comfortable. The room was comfortable and clean. although there were no robes and slippers in the room which we would have expected for a hotel of this standard. We get them in every hotel and unfortunately we did not bring slippers or robes with us which meant we had to dress in our clothes which we were going to wear into town that day down to the spa. We walked in our bare feet in changing room and around spa area. I did not feel comfortable with this. Towels lovely soft and clean. overall staff are of high standard in customer service.
There is a lot of history and interesting things to do in Glasgow, the hop on hop off bus was great to see everything we wanted to see and the guide was fantastic very knowledgeable. The city is so easy to get around all different interests are in within walking distance, plenty of places to eat and drink. There is a good selection of shops and easy to get around.
Great place to have a walk along the river, fantastic shopping and the open top bus is fantastic way to get around the city. There was a great range of bars and restaurants, all very busy so book ahead.
I was in Glasgow last week while they were filming some clips for a movie and it was awesome. The whole atmosphere of Glasgow was amazing and even though some streets were cut of due to the filming everything was still accessible and easy to find.
The room was a family room for four of us, three relatives of mine whom I accompanied on THEIR trip to my birthplace. The breakfast was fabulous and the staff exceptional and went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible in the havoc of dealing with restrictions on what was left open. Because of cancellation of our original flight we decided not to go to Aberdeen and stayed an extra night there to take earlier flight back to states. The staff was reduced but yet we received the same red carpet treatment.
The location is super awesome. Walk to the Central station. Walk to the main square - George Square.... the market is just around. The breakfast was good (paid for). The staff is very nice. The room was absolutely value for money.
Breakfast excellent cooked breakfast looked great freshly cooked. The location was central for all amenities. The subway was 2 minutes walk hop on for Kelvingrove Musuem. Right in the heart of the shopping area.
