We stayed in a central inn, full of character with enthusiastic young staff. Very well placed for traffic free walking to Guildhall, Cathedral and Docks. Interesting mix of shops, cafes etc.
We attended a Guildhall event one evening and a Cathedral event another and ran out of time for a return to the Docks. We plan to return to see Gloucester in the Spring.

So much history and beautiful old buildings. The Cathedral is magnificent. The pedestrian areas were vast, so many places to shop and eat. I particularly like the dock area which has been so tastefully transformed.

Gloucester has the Cathedral, Docks and Kingsholm for Rugby.
Gloucester has the Cathedral, Docks and Kingsholm for Rugby. Unless you have a particular reason for visiting there is not much to do or see. It is a useful base if you are visiting the Severn and Wye valleys or the Cotswolds.

I have been to Gloucester before but not stayed in the city. There are of course many fine mediaeval buildings including the Cathedral. also some very good pubs and I found the people generally very friendly.

This was my 4th trip to Gloucester so I have seen many of the sights before. The Cathedral is the main site to see. The cloisters have the most beautiful fan-vaulting stone work that I have ever seen in a Cathedral. Harry Potter fans will enjoy them as some scenes from the films were shot there. There are several quite old pubs in Gloucester which are well worth visiting plus it was a Roman town so there are some Roman ruins dotted about.

Gloucester itself (especially Gloucester Quays area) is very nice. Historic and interesting with lots of great eatery options (highly recommend Greek on the Docks or Hetty’s Place). Lots of parking, mostly pay parking.

This very old hotel has an amazing history dating back to 1450 and as it is so old there are outside stairs and narrow corridors and is not immaculate. We did not see any ghosts! It is a 5 minute walk to the cathedral and about a 15 minute walk to Gloucester Quays and the shops and restaurants, so in a very good location. We did not eat at the hotel.

The Edward Hotel is in a really good location for the centre of Gloucester. Just far enough out to miss the normal town noise of an evening. The hotel itself does need a bit of TLC and the actual layout is a bit of a rabbit Warren. If passing through again I would definitely book again if no other local hotels are available

Great location near the docks, city centre and Gloucester Park. The Quays and dock area provided plenty of variety for places to eat and drink as well as shop!
The apartment was modern and furnished well, with good comfy bed and big towels. Basic dishes, utensils etc were very new and what was needed.
