Godalming is a lovely little town, fairly flat and interesting to walk around. It is a good base to other areas too. We went to the Watts Gallery and Chapel, it was the prime reason for our visit and we weren’t disappointed. Nice town, which we'd not visited for nearly 50 years - the first, apparently, to be lit by electric light (1881). It's a super high street, and there's a nice riverside park with a colonnade dedicated to Jack Phillips, who was the wireless operator on the Titanic. I wasn’t coming for pleasure so had dinner in the hotel both nights. Just 3 parking spaces ludicrous. However, public car park free after 6.30pm right through Sunday. But as I had arrived on Friday it would have cost more into Saturday morning. The room 104 was small and over the kitchen air con units. Godalming is an attractive small town on the edge of the Surrey Hills. We’re regular visitors, our daughter and family live there. We had come down, having moved away from the town for a family party, so very convenient area for us. There is parking on site, an enclosed garden for the dogs, just everything that’s needed.
