Haverfordwest is a great town situated in the centre of Pembrokeshire so ideal for exploring the county, Vincent Davies on the Fishguard Road is a great shop with an excellent café. A bit more could be made of the High Street though. I was brought up there and was back visiting family. Not sure if the new road system helps though as a lot of the old charm of Haverfordwest has gone but on the whole its worth a visit.
As the focus of my trip was family history, my favourite place was St Mary's Chrush and the welcoming and helpful people there, followed by the Public Records Office and equally helpful people there. I enjoyed walking around the town, eating at the local pubs and Indian restaurant.
Enjoyed the scenery in and around Haverfordwest. We spent most days at broad haven and little haven. They are very small beaches but clean and dog friendly and have pay and display car parks. We ate in restaurants along the sea front and enjoyed fresh fish and seafood meals. Lovely sunsets enjoyed on the sea front. Some of the roads are single track and need care.
A pleasant enough small town. The central area is a contrast between the older traditional scene of narrow roads and back streets etc., (which frankly has seen better days) and the small modern riverside area of shops and cafes. There are nice views of, and access to, the river. One or two pubs and restaurants in the older area have not reopened following lockdown, but Wetherspoons fills this void. The castle is disappointing, though in fairness, is affected by Covid regulations.
The town is rundown and in desperate need of a boost, especially if it is going to attract more tourists. It’s a difficult time for tourism, but there wasn’t many decent places to eat at night or nice places to go and have a drink. The farmers arms is a small, local pub that was very welcoming and everyone very friendly. All the locals are friendly and very welcoming, the local council needs to help them out.
Didn't spend long in the town itself but it was a great place to stay to get to the other "tourist" spots eg St Davids, Porthgain, Dale. Roads in all directions seem to start in Haverfordwest. There is a large Tesco too for any shopping needs you might have. For us Ibuprofen for my daughter's shin-splints!
Family atmosphere and very friendly owner. They are making the most of the COVID19 restrictions. The room facilities were adequate for my stay.
Friendly welcome on reception, comfortable bed and I loved the proper sized mug for a brew.
