It was an unfriedly airport. If your want to transfer within terminal was the most difficult and expensive airport I ever encountered. The last train and bus was 1145pm. Just imaging if your want to transfer within terminal after that hour, you need to take a black cab which will cost you 20++ pound for a short ride of 13 minutes.
Very busy airport but appears to run smoothly. The arrivals hall in T2 had very helpful staff at the information desk. However it lacked staff on the floor to help direct people. There were interactive ports for info but people like to connect with people and feel welcome to your country. Signage in that area could be upgraded as it is a small area and can be busy.
We had booked first class with B A but we're very disappointed with the first class lounge, it was dirty with lots of empty cups, cans and paper left about with apparently no one cleaning anything away, we are staying in Dubai where every where is spotless even the motorways are clean!. We have always flown with Virgin before we tried BA, and I must say their first class lounge is 100% better than BA. Also there just wasn't enough seating for the number of people crammed in, it was really poor and in the need of a good make over, more of a road side cafe than a first class lounge.
If you have vertigo like me, the airport is a bit of a nightmare due to very long escalators and walkways. The food and drink in the hotel was expensive and not that great. Tip from me is to take bus to Uxbridge and if nice, walk along the canal. There is a great pub called The Swan and Bottle that has a very extensive men. The food is better than the hotel and cheaper.
Staff were friendly and efficient. Called the desk because there was one bath towel for two adults. A second bath towel was sent very quickly. The mattress was too soft. I’ve never slept on a water bed but the mattress in this Premier Inn must’ve been close to it. Also, the pillows were so flat I thought they were missing. The room was spotlessly clean.
