FAQs about hotels in Inverness

Gateway to the Highlands and Loch Ness

A jewel with historic buildings and charming streets, Inverness is surrounded by a typical Scottish Highland landscape. It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Take a walk around the Old Town, visit St Andrew’s Cathedral, and make a stopover in the charming Victorian Market. The Old High St Stephen's Church is the oldest building in town, and has been a religious site since pre-Christian times.

The Inverness Castle overlooks the river and is nowadays the seat of the Sheriff Court. A hotel in Inverness city centre is ideal to enjoy the different cultural and recreational activities in town.

Watch the Atlantic salmon jumping out the river near the Ness Islands, and try to catch a glimpse of the famous monster of Loch Ness. The Cairngorms National Park is 40 km away, and Chanonry Point is the best spot to watch dolphins, just 24 km away.

Inverness hotels include a large offer of small, cosy guest houses, B&B’s, and rural cottages, allowing a closer contact with the nature. Don’t miss the Inverness accommodation deals on Booking.com!

A small but very charming city.

A small but very charming city. After 3 days, we already knew the streets of the city center, could walk around, and reach our favorite café or restaurant without a map. Cute shops, and good restaurants. We didn't enter the cathedral because there was a £2 entrance fee, and we didn't have cash on hand. We also booked a 1-day tour and visited Clava Cairns, Culloden Battlefield, and Glen Affric - following in the footsteps of some of the locations that inspired the creators of the Outlander series. I highly recommend such a tour; it was a beautiful day, and we discovered places we wouldn't have been able to visit otherwise without such a tour or renting a car. Three days in Inverness (especially in winter) are more than enough. Have fun!

Lovely city. Friendly. Easy to walk around. Beautiful walks along the river. Castle is currently closed due to ongoing work. Bus and train station make city links easy but a car recommended if you want to visit round about, or further afield. Perfect place for a quiet getaway.

Yes very good nice bars & restaurants & shopping facilities did not eat in hotel after the man when I asked for a Brandy & a bottle of lager gave me a double Brandy what I did not ask for ? & refused me a bottle of beer because he said I had enough to drink ? My wife could not believe it as we went to see a couple of properties in the area & a few beers & was not behaving bad or drunk? & had the nerve to put on a service charge of £5.55

Its a bit tired and grubby.

Its a bit tired and grubby. There are few independent shops - just all the big chains. The parking in the town centre is reasonably priced but the road layout is tricky. The under cover car parks at the main shopping centre in town is a nightmare. Please get the exits signposted to prevent a lot of driving round in circles. People are nice. The old Victorian covered market is nice but the main shopping district is disappointing. There's a fantastic church at the Inshes Retail Park. If you're there on a Sunday try it.

My boyfriend and I had a very positive experience at Torridon Guest House! It was our first time in Scotland and the owner made sure we had excellent information on where to go to eat in Inverness and what to do. The room was cozy and clean, very typical and we were pleased that the breakfast had lots of options - very yummy as well! The place doesn't have many rooms, which is ideal if you want to relax as we wanted to! There's also a free parking space within the property and this was very helpful! We'll definitely come back!!

Location was great, staff were super nice and welcoming, bed was very comfy and we slept great. Street outside was very noisy, Saturday night but soundproofing was super so you could only hear the loudest screamers faintly - good combo of being able to step out right into the action but also being able to escape the mayhem. Also the other patrons were nice, nobody loud and drunk at late hours (I think the first hotel we've stayed at in Scotland where this was the case). Nice bathroom, very clean. Would definitely stay again.

Emma and Josef are excellent hosts! Really wonderful people and enjoyed chatting with them! They were very organised and also very flexible to meet our needs. Breakfast was wonderful and there were so many choices! Emma was a real dear to cater for my wife's allergies. The room was very spacious, comfortable and with a good view of the nearby countryside. The area is very quiet and peaceful and also close to Culloden Moor, Inverness and other locations with a car. We would definitely stay here if we visit Scotland again!

It’s hard to find adequate words to describe how much my husband and I loved staying at Ness Lodge. The hosts are absolutely fantastic! Zoe made a dinner reservation for us at the Drumossie Hotel and it was our favorite meal experience in Scotland. I recommend taking their food recommendations to heart because they know their stuff! The home was so cozy, modern, and beautiful that we never wanted to leave! Ness Lodge is a must-stay if you’re in Inverness. You won’t find a better place!

On our amazing trip around Scotland for two and a half weeks, we had an overnight stay at Carisbrooke Guest House in Inverness on our trip from Shetland to the Isle of Skye. Nice place and centrally located close to the city center. Good facilities. Our room was in the building at the back. Calm and quiet. The hosts were helpful and very attentive to our well-being. great little BnB, good location just off of the old town. A bit of a walk but not bad at all. check in process was so easy, they texted me the key code and had the room ready ahead of time. it was really nice to just walk in and unpack, take a short nap and head back into town. breakfast was pretty typical for BnBs in Scotland, good simple breakfast food both hot and cold. the ladies did a great job and were very pleasant.

Joyce and Alan were wonderful hosts. We felt very welcome and “at home”. They told us a lot about Scotland that we didn’t know and we also laughed a lot, which is always a good thing. The artwork (wall art and wood carvings of birds) is outstanding. Why not a perfect score? Nobody believes perfect scores. This is an honest review that you can believe. You won’t be disappointed. We were really pleased to find out that ‘pet-friendly’ is indeed VERY pet friendly. On our round trip throughout Scotland we noticed many hotels allow dogs in the room. But Glen Mhor takes that to the next level by letting your furry buddy accompany you to the diner and breakfest. Staff was also outstanding and friendly!
