There seems to be a lot going on in Lancaster ie a Jazz Festuival and Films to watch at the Duke's Theatre. A Really a nice break for me as I am a film and music buff. This was my 2nd stay over this Summer and Autumn at the University this and once again the Bus Service was good and this helped me get about. Our comfortable accommodation was in an ideal location, just 10 mins walk from the city centre and beautiful sights of Lancaster - we visited the prison and castle and thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour (inexpensive) - would recommend this - there was also a 'Choclatiere' in the grounds, the choclates we bought were so refined and tasted delectable. We also visited the cathedral (free to enter), what a beautiful building with spectactular architecture inside and out. There are a couple of museums, well worth a visit - and while we were there, there was a food festival held on Sunday 10th August, we bought some of the fresh bakes and some cultural foods - we couldn't compliment them enough - so many food aromas, feel hungry now thinking about what we didn't get to taste. We visited Friday to Sunday but could have stayed an extra night or two as there are lots of places to shop and restaurants to eat in, not forgetting the delicious food, the many pubs have to offer. Lancaster has an exciting and welcoming feel with the bus station so well planned with really helpful staff who are there to guide and keep you right as you travel from Lancaster. The Duke's Theatre was my base where you could sit and plan your day over tea,cake,coffee. It hosts a cinema showing alternative films each day and I noticed an open air cinema at Williamson Park for those seeking al fresco summer events. I found a great pub 'Pendel Witch' serving a variety of Beers and Ales and a substanial evening meal at a reasonable cost. The city centre, the castle, eateries, and stores are just a minute away literally. Loved the ambience. The property owner Mr.Joe was very helpful. The laundry that's next to the property is relatively cheaper but is a good addition. I would have preferred to stay here for the whole duration of my visit to Lancaster if not for the unavailability of rooms. If I am ever visiting again, this is going to be the first on my list. The courtyard area was perfect for meeting up for drinks and breakfast. The hotel doesn't do a formal breakfast but, cereals, milk, juice, tea, coffee, yogurts were all provided in lovely baskets in the room and can be taken to the courtyard to eat. You can order a breakfast from a local cafe too. The location is marvellous, being very close to the city centre. The staff were all super helpful.
