Largs is a really quaint little town with plenty to see and do if you are staying for a few days. The locals are really friendly too. We also spent two days on Great Cumbrae which is a very short and inexpensive ferry trip from Largs. The town of Millport is really lovely and again the locals are very friendly. I recommend hiring a bike and cycling around the island in order to take advantage of the stunning scenery.
Largs is a lovely little seaside town, with great transport links and only an hour from Glasgow by bus. This service runs every half hour. The town tends to be very popular particularly at weekends, in the summer, and rightly so as it caters for everyone. There is a nice promenade walk. cafe's, pubs, restaurants and plenty of entertainment for children as well as adults. There are also two golf courses in Largs and an indoor swimming pool. Largs is also a well maintained little town and there always seems to be a friendly and welcoming feeling when you visit.
Largs is the most friendly town I have visited. Practically everyone spoke to me (which is important for a person travelling alone). It was exceptionally clean and well maintained in the promenade and park areas. The one amusement arcade was set away from the promenade. Ample cafes and restaurants. Numerous children's activities on the promenade and park areas. Ferries were sailing regularly to Cumbrae and met by a bus service for foot passengers.
ONLY DOWNSIDE TO THE 3 DAY STAY WE HAD WAS THE DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE RESTAURANT WE HAD BOOKED ON OUR LAST NIGHT (ROOM) FAILED TO ACCOMMODATE US FOR A PRIOR BOOKING. THEIR MISTAKE AND THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT IT. EVEN THE OWNERS ATTITUDE WAS VERY POOR INDEED BE WARY.
WE WENT FOR A TRIP ON THE WAVERLEY WE HAVE BEEN TO MILLPORT PREVIOUSLY HIGHLY RECCOMMEND IT TO OTHER TRAVELLERS GREAT FOR CHILDREN LIKE BEING IN A DIFFERENT WORLD. YOU WILL SEE THE CROCODILE ROCK ETC
I loved the views and the fact that it was so little to use ferry to cross over to mill port ferry is frequent and lasts for about 15mins. You can walk along the front and sit whenever you need too the views are great and there is public toilets available. Lots of little places to eat and explore. Great if you pushing a pram or wheel chair no great big hills . If your looking for a bit of slow paced you time this is the place to go for long walks and fish teas. Its only an hour by train.
Clean property, decent kitchen area, lovely clean linen and bedding, no issues with the actual apartment. All the kitchen equipment was lovely and clean and plentiful. The maid service was excellent and she came and supplied us with 2 torches so to help us enter the apartment at night and see where we going up the stairs as the internal stairway light wasn't working.
Lovely hotel and views. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was superb. My only issue was that the hotel was a bit too far outside of Largs for us to walk and we had to get a taxi, although it wasn't expensive. Even with that though, I would stay again as it really is a lovely hotel and we were well looked after.
