It is a very interesting town, although we were only there for one night as we had to attend a funeral. The journey home was horrendous due to road works and very poor maintainance of the A44 (many potholes)
An old wool town set in wonderful Herefordshire countryside. A lot of history and antiques outlets! Check out the museum located in Etnam Street where Photographic work of the area in the 19th century taken by T H Winterbourn can be seen.
I love Leominster, the cobbles, the shop's, the food and the friendly people, the place is lovely with wonderful history. The White Lion, The Chequers pub, and Coffee#1 were amongst my favourite places.
Very direct access to our hotel, the Talbot, which has its own parking - but first following signs to a public car park ( with public toilets) we didn't see any noticeboard with a plan to enable us to get any understanding of the town layout . There don't appear to be any such signboards anywhere. We saw one sign to tourist information, but never found it, not knowing what sort of building we were looking for . Despite having no sense of which way was which, we really liked Leominster and will stay at the Talbot again. Perhaps following signs to the library would result in useful information, but it was evening when we arrived, and next morning we were en route further south.
Leominster has a compact and interesting town centre with some 'black and white' timber-framed buildings. There's a large antiques and collectibles centre and about a dozen other antiques shops. There's reasonable parking and some free 1 hour parking in Broad Street. The Merchants House Cafe and Antiques Centre in the Corn Square next to the Information centre is well worth a visit and a coffee or light meal.
Leominster is a small, friendly and relaxed town with some interesting old buildings. It's great for browsing around the shops, especially if you like antiques. There are some really characterful pubs and a good range of dining options given its' size. It's a good base for exploring further afield with Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury within easy distance by road or rail.
Cool, old fashioned style with exposed beams in the room we stayed in.
