Lewis is an old town full of interesting history, lots of old buildings and of course the castle that's always worth the walk up the hill, don't worry if you're not too fit as you can get a local bus to the top of the hill. Lots of wonderful pubs and cafes in the town centre along with some nice restaurants. The town is surrounded by stunning scenery all around.
I stay in Lewes frequently for visits to Glyndebourne. The local taxi firm (GMC Taxis) are very good and are prompt when picking up at the arranged time both to get to Glyndebourne and to return. The town itself has much to offer with interesting shops and historic places including the Castle. Hotel accommodation is very limited since the closure of The Shelleys and Pelham House. Parking is expensive
LEWES IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE! HOWEVER DO NOT STAY AT PREMIER INN !!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE A TOTAL JOKE AND NOTHING LESS THAN DAYLIGHT THIEVES WHO NEARLY DESTROYED MY WEDDING WITH 2 MISTAKES ON OUR BOOKINGS. The Dorset on the other hand is a Lovely place to stay and would recommend it to anyone whishing to stay in Lewes.
Lewis is a delightful Sussex country market town with the delightful streets A few great places to eat which are very reasonable, such as the original Bill’s restaurant which knocks the socks off all the other venues & still has the original Bill’s authentic atmosphere. Lewes has a castle priory ruins steeps of history with a town that has the most buildings using mathematical tiles (look it up) Within the South Downs National park close access to walks on the hills. Also quick access to Brighton (8 miles) It’s just a lovely place to be.
I was only passing through, but if I’d had time I would of gone to the 16th century book shop and the Anne of Cleeves museum. The buildings were really lovely looking and the cinema (up by the station) looked really cool. I’ve never really considered Lewes as a holiday destination, but I definitely will now!
An interesting old town with character. Lovely new repertoire cinema, old castle, museums, brewery & backstreets to explore. Great base to stay for Glyndebourne with bookable transfer coach from outside the station.
Lewes
A well equipped, clean property for a single person or a couple. Great location on the NW outskirts of Lewes - easy access to the Downs and a 15-20 minute walk to the town centre. The kitchen area was surprisingly usable, with milk, juice, tea, and coffee provided - very welcome on arrival, thank you! A smart TV and good Wi-Fi were the icing on the cake.
Lewes
Perfectly located a short walk from the station - well placed for Lewes town and also the Downs beyond. There's also green fields and farmland directly opposite to explore. Friendly hosts, lovely apartment with clean comfy bed, wonderful view, and delicious breakfast hamper - with home-made honey! Would highly recommend and will likely stay here again.
Lewes
It was a lovely welcome, very clean, deluxe, comfortable, great products, high thread count bed linen, warm, cozy and tastefully decorated. Small kitchen and private living room was ideal and the ease of being in the heart of Lewes was so convenient. Vicky was so accommodating and responsive. I highly recommend and would stay again in a heartbeat!
Lewes
absolutely beautiful spot, quite absolutely everything you could need in the pod and outside, fire pit/bbq is a total vibe. excellent communication in advance of arrival. the pods come with your own outside bathrooms which is only accessible to you with a key and is more well finished and clean than half the hotels I’ve stayed in
Lewes
Central location in Lewes. Wonderful design of contemporary house, located in quiet lane near town centre. Bedroom very comfortable, large bed, tea/coffee making and even a tiny fridge with milk provided. Adjacent bathroom excellent. Great communication from owner and easy access via key safe. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you.
Lewes
I stopped over very briefly between two shifts I was working in Lewes. I had a disturbed night of sleep due to snoring (I was in a dorm room), but that is hardly the fault of YHA. The bathroom facilities were excellent, and I enjoyed a hot shower with good water pressure, which was much appreciated.
Absolutely lovely pub and hotel. The food was delicious (both the pub menu and the breakfast included in the room price), the staff was terrific (they make you feel right at home from the get-go) and the hotel room was just gorgeous! It really exceeded my expectations!
Lewes
Jo was a great host. Nothing was too much trouble for her. This was a great place to stay with my little boy. Our room was comfortable and breakfast was great. Lewes was a good base and there is a nice park nearby.
A great host who was very flexible regarding our needs. A clean, comfortable and stylish accommodation which we will happily return to on our annual Lewes visit.
