I really enjoyed the luxury of the Victorian bath and the thoughtful inclusion of Prosecco, enhancing the overall indulgence of my stay. The bed was extremely comfortable, providing a restful night’s sleep. The well-maintained exterior and clean, inviting common areas, along with remarkably kind restaurant staff who catered attentively to our needs, contributed to a delightful experience. Note: All photos were taken at the end of our stay. Upon check-in, all rooms were impeccable.

The hotel was absolutely gorgeous throughout! The staff were incredibly nice, stored luggage for us and made checking in and out easy. The bed was comfortable and the room was nice and quiet. It's not often that you can look out the window and see a castle! We loved the convenience of the location and our tapas dinner at Ole Ole next door was wonderful (reservations encouraged). There were lots of quality options at the continental breakfast (beautiful pastries, breads, sliced meat and cheese, fruit, yogurt, and more). We would return in a heartbeat!

FAQs about hotels in Lincoln

The Glory of Medieval England

Lincoln was a powerhouse of medieval England and retains amazing monuments from that period. In the Uphill district is the castle built for William the Conqueror. Inside its an original copy of the Magna Carta and its ramparts offer fabulous city views. Across the cobbled square which houses the large Christmas market is huge Lincoln Cathedral whose unusual façade features 2 tall towers, while another at its centre overlooks the Bishop’s Palace.

Connecting the cathedral quarter with the Downhill district is aptly named Steep Hill, a narrow street lined with unique shops and historic buildings including the Jew’s House. Even older are the Roman Newport Arch, Mint Wall and the well on Bailgate.

This road slopes down to meet the River Witham at High Bridge, a stone-arched structure with a half-timbered building atop that is the oldest of its kind in England. Lincoln boat trips depart from the Brayford Pool just west.

Another monument is the 18th-century Ellis Mill, opposite the Museum of Lincolnshire Life. The Collection combines an archaeology museum and art gallery, while The Lawn has a conference centre and the Joseph Banks Conservatory, displaying artefacts he brought back from adventures with Captain Cook.

Booking.com’s Lincoln accommodation covers luxury waterfront hotels, guest houses by the university and cheap apartments near the train station.

Lincoln is a wonderful experience for all.

Lincoln is a wonderful experience for all. History buffs can see the Magna Carta in Lincoln Castle and learn about how the city played an important role in democracy. There are many restaurants along the waterfront or in the city center to enjoy after a day at the shops. I spent a week there mid August and the weather was wonderful and the city is very walkable. It’s truly a gem for singles, friends, and families of all ages.

Lincoln is a fabulous place to stay.

Lincoln is a fabulous place to stay. We really enjoyed our trip. The cathedral is magnificent and the tours offered are excellent. We didn't have time to visit the castle but heard from other guests that that was excellent too. We loved the individual shops and quaintness of Steep Hill but if you have mobility issues you would find it very difficult to walk up it. There is plenty to see in Lincoln and a 2 night stay wasn't enough. There is an open top bus which you can get that takes you to the various sites if you are short of time . We loved the many eateries in the town and had 2 excellent restaurant meals in the evening and plenty of coffee shops to enjoy. Lincoln is an excellent choice for a short stay and the cathedral is a 'must see'. The restaurant in the cathedral is excellent too.

The architecture of the upper town was lovely. Contrast in scale between the Cathedral and Castle and the surrounding houses and shops. Lower town quite vibrant retail centre for the internet age. Enjoyed visit to Bomber Command Centre. Open top tour bus is a must.

This is the second time I have spent a short stay in Lincoln...

This is the second time I have spent a short stay in Lincoln. It has some good attractions with the cathedral offering a number of different tours. The castle is also very interesting, just watch out for the wind when you are on the wall walk, as it comes from nowhere and is very strong. There are also a couple of museums, a lovely garden and a busy highstreet with lots of independent shops and restaurants. Well worth a visit

Old part lovely interesting buildings and shops.

Old part lovely interesting buildings and shops. Cathedral truly magnificent loved the stained glass windows. Lots of places to eat as well as an excellent butcher cheese shop and coffee shop. Down by the river gives a different aspect with big stores banks etc . There are delightful art galleries and lots of green spaces. The arboretum an unexpected large open space on a city, Lincoln easy to walk round albeit hilly in parts!

The historic centre of Lincoln is very picturesque.

The historic centre of Lincoln is very picturesque. Lincoln Cathedral is the finest I have seen and we spent a long time exploring it. The castle with its Victorian prison is interesting too and the wall walk gives another view of the immediate area. There are lots of lovely independent shops including small craft and art galleries. The Usher Gallery in the cultural quarter has a good collection of art and is small enough not to be overwhelming. The choice of restaurants is good. We ate at Thailand No. 1, Cafe Zoot and, down in the main shopping area, Mowgli Street Food, all the the meals were excellent, which I particularly appreciated as a vegan who avoids gluten. I would unreservedly recommend a visit to Lincoln, but one thing to note is that there are lots of cobbles and it is hard to avoid steep hills when exploring, so accessibility for those with mobility issues may be tricky.

The staff are pleasant and were helpful when our room wasn't cleaned (due to staff shortages). We would describe Woodcocks as a good budget hotel offering value for money. The rooms are very similar in style to the Travel Inn chain. There is a family pub adjacent to the hotel; we didn't eat there as the menu was limited in terms of healthy vegan options. The location is good being a 20 minute drive (traffic permitting) of Lincoln City Centre. Also, good for the A46.

My wife and I had planned a couple of days away to include attending an exhibition and booked the Pyewipe pretty much at random. The hotel is in a great location adjacent to a canal and it was a pleasant 25 minute walk into the centre of Lincoln down the canal path. The food was terrific, the staff were friendly and efficient and the bedroom was also good.
