Victorian Resort with a Welsh Twist
The most popular Wales seaside resort, Llandudno covers a peninsula with 2 sandy coastlines. The North Shore’s wide Victorian promenade is lined with period buildings which now house seafront hotels and guest houses. The beach itself stretches all the way between the Little Orme and Great Orme headlands, passing an outdoor swimming pool.
A historic tram climbs to the peak of Great Orme, where Bronze Age copper mines can be visited. The top is also reachable by cable car from Happy Valley, a recreation area with gardens and an artificial ski slope.
A road runs around the base of the headland passing the historic Grand Hotel, a property available on Booking.com and overlooking the Grade II-listed pier – the longest in Wales. The West Shore is much less developed and the Maesdu Golf Course forms most of its shoreline.
Of course, Llandudno has its fair share of traditional seaside pursuits such as donkey rides and fish and chip shops.
The town also has a modern retail park near the train station and Venue Cymru event centre, and wrought-iron canopies shade smaller shops along Mostyn Avenue, Broadway and Street. The latter - Mostyn Street - is effectively the high street and becomes brightly decorated during the Victorian carnival in May.

My wife and I have going to Llandudno for more years than I care to remember. Always loved the place. Plenty of cafes and restaurants and a great walking area - The Prom. Even got a tram which takes you up to The Great Orme. An open top bus ride is our favourite, as is the old coach trip around The Orme. Llandudno even has its own micro-climate and seems to be shielded from the worst of the weather on a bad day. Some old and quaint shops can be found if you look. Plenty to do and if you like a walk, go onto the pier and watch the sea! If you are fit enough, you can walk from The Great Orme to The Little Orme; a good long walk. Eating lunch? We like 'Fortes'.
