Set in 50-acre grounds The Lake Country House Hotel & Spa lies in the heart of the Welsh countryside. With private bathrooms it also features a swimming pool and sauna. This was a strange place but we soon got used to it. The staff could not do enough for us. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was majestic. At £45 per head we didn't opt for the evening meal so I can't comment but I feel confident it would have been good. It was a fair walk from the main building to the spa but well worth it. The outside hot tub has the most violent turbulence I have ever encountered! Talking to one of the other guests I was told that the fishing here is superb. There is a very comfortable lounge area in the main building where guests can enjoy any drink they fancy.
Located in Llanwrtyd Wells, 28 miles from Hay-on-Wye, Swn y Coed has a shared lounge and free WiFi. Fantastic bnb, very well equipped, owners were lovely, friendly and really made you feel at home, nothing was too much trouble for them, breakfast choice was out of this world, recommend the bnb to anyone and will definitely go back.
The Old House, Llwyn Madoc is located in Llanwrtyd Wells and offers a garden, a tennis court and barbecue facilities. The setting of this property was absolutely stunning. We were staying in what was the original farmhouse to the property, located around the back of the main house pictured. A massive apartment with everything provided. It was exceptionally clean and well appointed for a comfortable stay. The showers were comical - dodging between hot/cold. Difficult to regulate temperature, but there are two baths also to use, so not a problem really. It would not stop me from returning however. Due to the location it was very peaceful. Beautiful walks nearby. Although remote, good easy access to local towns/villages. Owner was very helpful and provided some excellent information about the local area and walks.
Pen y Crug Cottage is located in Llanafan-fawr and offers a garden, barbecue facilities and a terrace. Location was perfect. Beds very comfy. Surroudings just amazing. Plenty to discover in the cottage. Beautiful garden. View in the morning through the main bedroom window just flew us away. Thanks.
Set in a 100-year-old Welsh cottage with thick stone walls, Maes y Gwaelod is 1 mile from the village of Llanwrtyd Wells and 3 miles from the train station. Absolutely beautiful location, and the owners were just wonderful people to speak to. We will defiantly be going back sooner rather than later, I was sad to go.
Set in Llanwrtyd Wells, 12 mi from Builth Wells, Llanwrtyd Hall B&B Angelis Holistic Retreat offers a garden and free WiFi. The bed and breakfast offers a continental or buffet breakfast. Temperature taken on arrival due to Covid, and details taken. Hand sanitizers dotted around. Social distancing in place. Room - Bright, spacious, relaxing, & clean with everything you need. Bed - Really comfy with big squishy pillows & quilt. En-Suite - Clean & bright. Powerful, temperature stable shower. One of the best I’ve had. Large cubicle. Big thick fluffy towels. 5 star assortment of soaps, shampoos, body wash etc. In-Room Refreshments - Large selection of different teas, coffees, hot chocolate, sugars & milk & cream in room, along with bottles of water, & a tub of different biscuits, cereal bars, etc. As if that wasn’t enough there was a unit in the corridor where you could replenish everything, so you don’t have to keep asking. Best in-room refreshments I’ve seen. Breakfast - You have to fill in a tick list on the evening for your breakfast choice the next morning. Everything you can think of is on there. We were told we could tick as much as we liked. Nice breakfast room. Wonderful breakfast. We had full breakfast for 2 days & panini on last day. Dog Friendly - Dog food & water bowls provided in room, along with large fluffy dog bed. Not sure if only certain rooms are dog friendly. No doggy smell in room. Hosts - Lovely people. Attentive but not intrusive. We were made to feel very welcome. We didn’t arrive till 8pm. We were starving so they got us a table booked at the local pub. Didn’t feel like we had to tiptoe around. Peaceful atmosphere. We didn’t want to come home. They also provide holistic therapy / services. Would we go again? Yes!
The hotel is very relaxed and the staff were excellent. Spa treatments were very relaxing and the leisure facilities were just what I needed. I walked around the lake which was very nice. The aim of the break for me was to relax and that is exactly what I did.
Lovely quiet location. Stunning scenery and grounds. Beautiful hotel and lovely staff. Breakfast was fabulous but evening meal choices a little limited. A walk in shower was requested due to problems with arthritis but this was not forthcoming so disappointing as my elderly mother struggled with the bath. I had made a point of discussing this with the staff at the hotel before paying so a little frustrating.
There is nothing about this hotel and it's staff to dislike. it is so peaceful there and the grounds are beautiful. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and during dinner they were attentive but not intrusive. The food is of a very high standard and beautifully presented. Plenty to eat at breakfast and a good choice of cooked food. Our suite, The Cambrian, was very spacious and comfortable with lovely views over the garden. Very nice spa quality toiletries in the bathroom. Spa facilities are excellent with a good sized swimming pool and a lovely hot tub on an open terrace. There is also a small gym, sauna and steam room.
Duvets too hot! Brecon Cathedral very interesting, we were allowed to take our dogs inside. Tour guide if required, some nice walks around the town. The Beacons breathtaking, we saw wild Welsh ponies, one or two nice pubs. Plenty to do at hotel if you wanted a 'car free' day, maybe next time we bring our riding kit & tennis racquets. Definitely enjoyed a swim before breakfast.
We went to the lion pub in builth wells for food and that was lovely simple food with good portions. Yummy and good value with massive portions. You have to drive out 5miles to get to a shop which is builth wells but it only takes 10mins. Llangammarch only had a post office so you have to travel out for things to do.The area around is so so so beautiful amazing views everywhere so take your camera!!
We didn't actually stay in the township.. The hotel we stayed at was about 2 miles away. But it is hidden well in the Wales/Powys countryside. Such a wonderful spot. You definitely need a car to get there. The hotel had a spa facility and golf course.
