I spent most of my childhood in Dorset and know the seaside towns well. Lyme Regis is great for all ages, there are restaurants, a good beach, boat trips, fishing trips, a museum, interesting shops and the Town Mill area to explore. The town has supermarkets, chemists, clothes, book stores too. There are also guided walks and fossil hunting to do. You can walk to the end of the Cobb, on top or beside it and get amazing views of the coast and town. There are backwaters to go along too as well as taking in the views from Langmoor Gardens. Busy and interesting little resort, plenty of shops, bakeries, cafes, restaurants, a fossil museum, and fossil shops where you can buy bits of "Jurassica;" there are lots of the common ammonite-types for sale, but there's also bigger stuff like fossilised shark teeth. Room was a good size and comfy. Relaxation areas were nice as well. Excellent outdoor pool area too. Breakfasts and dinner were excellent. It's handily placed pretty much halfway between Charmouth and Lyme Regis, and on the South West Coast Path. You need to be fit though if you want to walk to either as the climbs back are quite steep.
