This is where I live, so here are some comments from a local. Marlow is a very pretty place, especially by the river and up in the woods of the Common. Very nice, safe areas to take long walks.
Pubs and restaurants tend to be on the pricey side but you can get a nice meal at a reasonable price at The George and Dragon, near our famous bridge. Also by the bridge, on the opposite side of the Thames, is the Compleat Angler. They have a lovely Afternoon Tea and the location is gorgeous. It's a bit expensive for what you get but the views of the river make it something worth doing at least once. Burgers of Marlow is a local institution - it's a tearoom/bakery and we often get some treats there and take them over to enjoy by the riverside. I especially recommend the japs and the rum balls. There are quite a few pubs here, the majority of which charge London prices. I recommend avoiding The Cross Keys as it's become a very rough place.
Marlow is a very safe little town, save for that one dodgy location.
During the summer months Salter's Steamers leave from Marlow for trips to Henley or Windsor. Very relaxing and reasonably priced.
Marlow is reached by a branch-line from Maidenhead and the station is within easy walking distance to the High Street. However, the service is only once an hour so make sure to check the timetables. You can also get here by bus from Reading, Henley or High Wycombe. If you drive it's best to use one of the carparks as it can be difficult to find street parking.
