We used it a our accommodation this weekend for our wedding. It worked so well as we married on Friday at Melton registry office and were looking forward to celebrating with everyone on the Saturday. Unfortunately the Sat did not go ahead but having the cottage meant that we could still have our close family and friends with us to celebrate. We are postponing the party until this time next year so definately looking to rebook for then!! I would definitely recommend! We only live 40 mins away but it felt like a little holiday. ❤️
An historic town with useful information boards and plaques. A pleasant walking experience. It would have been more interesting if we had known the days the impressive church was open, and also the days for the cattle market and farmers' market. It was a pity we missed that. It is not easy to find a restaurant on a Sunday evening (our hotel did not have a restaurant open). There was an Indian restaurant opposite that was open, and the food was good though the service was slow.
Grounds Views Peace able to sit and pray Quiet setting Warm and friendly staff Value for money Local craft/drinks etc stalls, antique cars and dance first Sunday of the month. :-) Ate at Kettlby pub in Melton Mowbray. Oakham the other direction. Walking, cycling area. Bus route on main road other than on a Sunday.
I go to Melton because I have to. Not because of work….but because of family I married in to. I’m sure there’s much that can entice you…the place just does nothing for me. Hoping that will change soon… but yeah; not holding my breath. Let me know if discover anywhere/anything that might fill me with excitement!
Very easy to find your way around. Good pubs especially 14th Century Anne of Cleves and plenty of places to eat. The locals were really friendly. St. Mary's Church is a must to visit, but please note it closes at 2pm as the volunteers finish at this time. The is parking around the town centre, £1.50 for up to 3 hours, but on Market Day which is a Tuesday, the local council bump the cost up to £3.00. We spent at least 20 mins trying to pay the usual rate before someone else in the car park told us. Apart from that we really enjoyed our time there.
A lovely market town with a good range of pubs and restaurants. Lots of independent shops as well as the usual high street shops. Everything within a short distance of where we stayed and a beautiful church in the centre.
The market, and food and drink, for sale to cook and served as a meal. We ate at Anne of Cleves, a historic building with an interesting past, lovely food and local ale (Everard). We had a child and a dog with us and we found most establishments happy to accommodate us. The Boat inn is a lovely local alehouse, very glad we stumbled upon it! Also there is a tap house in the market place called Round The Corner, very nice selection in there... The town has a river and a large railway station.
Melton Mowbray
Thought £116 bed and breakfast was excessive. Breakfast was adequate only. Meal in the restaurant on Saturday, again only adequate. Was musty smell in bathroom and at times room was cold. Hotel was no at all busy and felt we could have been upgraded, We came to Melton Mowbray expecting a lovely market town and were very disappointed. Would not return.
