The setting is beautiful, staff friendly, overall a nice place to stay, the shower in our room did not work, no management to report it to so had to tell the waitress at breakfast who immediately arranged another room for me to use so I could have a shower and it was fixed that day so no complaints.
The hotel is lacking comfortable chairs to sit on, all chairs are plain wooden with no cushions, so lacking a little bit of the cosy atmosphere, but lots of character. Food not cheap but very good. Restaurant again had hard chairs and no cushions and the tables had plastic tablecloths on which I did not feel appropriate with the charges.
The only disappointing thing for us was we booked a two night stay for the peace and quiet of the county side for my partner to recover from an illness only to find out when we arrived a band was booked for the following evening, and we were not informed. However the band was very good and although it was outside our window and went on from 7.30 to 11.20pm it was enjoyable, the worst thing for us was people were allowed to sit outside and drink very loudly, until 1am which was directly outside our window no attempt by management was made to stop this so we got very little sleep and had a long drive home the following morning. So we did not get the peaceful weekend we were hoping for. Disappointed that there was no management to report it to on check out the following morning only our lovely waitress, who it would have been unfair to have complained to as she was so helpful. So my advise would be to check before booking if you want peace and quiet.
Overall, although it is a lovely old quaint pub I feel it was very expensive at £120 a night
