Quiet town with good range of shops and tea shops especially the APPLE TREE tea rooms. Several bus services. Appreciated as I am not a car owner. Helpful tourist information office. Beautiful Blenheim gardens to visit .Plenty of eating places. Lovely sea views, Wales visible. Lots of greenery around. Clean beach. Heritage railway, not sure when it was running. Coast path runs through town. Butlins there, did not impinge on non campers. Has a theatre.
Never having visited Minehead before, I thought it was very clean and tidy, it was very appealing to the eye with all the beachfront decorations and play areas. The sight of all the little statues dotted about the place was amazing, I wish I had enough time to visit them all. We will be donating the his scooter collection.
The location of the cottage was great. Very central for shops, restaurants and travelling to all surrounding beauty spots. The beach was within easy walking distance with lots of cafes, shops to browse and amusement arcades for family fun.
Weather wasn't great on 2 days so we were very flexible. The train would have been something we would have tried but it required early booking. All of the restaurants we had booked in advance were very good 2 in Minehead, The Old Ship Aground and the Wheelhouse and 2 in Dunster, Lutterell Arms and Reeves, only a few minutes away by car or taxi. We walked around and used an historical guided tour on the web, there is also an informative museum.
Minehead has a good sea front & walks either end which we enjoyed. Dogs not allowed on beach until end of September maybe this could be changed until end of august or time limit like Cornwall none on the beach 10-6 as very few people on it & would have been nice for the extra running space. Very clean & tidy saw workmen out picking the litter so doing a good job although I agree they shouldn’t be needed if everyone did their bit. Good for families with lots on offer to entertain them. Railway straight to beachfront, we had no problem parking but was a damp day end of the season, good coastal buses to neighbouring towns to visit. Did not go into town so cannot comment about that but was signposted close to beach area.
I travel to Minehead from time to time, so I know the place. I was disappointed that restaurants, like Stones and its sister 'The Hairy Dog' seem to see customers as a nuisance as they want to pack up and go home as soon as possible. It was generally difficult to book a restaurant as many were closed or closing early evening. The exception is Wetherspoons which gets packed as a result and is a better accommodation offering too.
