We found it a lovely, vibrant town with a good choice of eating places. We had a meal at The Crown pub and the staff were very attentive to my wife`s gluten intolerance. We found them very caring and courteous. The food was excellent value.
Lovely town quite a few shops sadly some are closed . Lots of pubs closed some being refurbished like Punch house Nags head . Had nice meal in Castle Inn only problem was it was drafty if doors windows open .nice staff .3 curry houses all good . Wetherspoons also Lovely rooms comfy beds . Creates is a nice bistro with small rooms Raduni is nice for curry Nice coffee shops
Beautiful, village-style location with all the shops and facilities you could need. Excellent M&S and Waitrose. Well cared for town with lots of flowers and shrubs. Really enjoyed our stay (for a wedding).
Character town - mix of high street a local craft/quirky shops - good food and nice friendly pubs Everything within short walking distance from the main street Ate at Misbah curry house - best Ive had in quite some time
Monmouth itself is small but well-endowed with entire historic streets and additional buildings of great antiquarian interest, though these are unlikely to warrant more than a couple of days' study for the average tourist. But for a longer break it is an excellent base or hub for a walking / cycling holiday in amongst the tranquil river banks and wooded hills that reach right into the very heart of the town. Town highlights are the mediaeval Gate House at the foot of the main shopping street, Monnow Street, the part-Norman and galleried St Thomas the Martyr Church nearby, and Agincourt Square at the top of the town with statues of its most famous sons, Henry V and Charles Rolls, its homely cluster of old inns and the grand Shire Hall. Eating options in Monmouth itself are varied enough for up to a week's stay, while there are also other historic or high-end options in nearby villages and small towns
Probably one of the best High Streets I have visited in Gt Britain, every High street shop appears to be in this300 yard or so Street. TheWetherspoons Pub The Kings Head is worth a visit as is the local Theatre. We stayed for one night at said Wetherspoons where Duty Manager Simon could not do enough to make our stay outstanding, and we will definitely stay again.
