It's in a wonderful location very rural with pretty views but it's a dormer village, usual amenities for locals and except for the pub nothing much for visitors except perhaps it's closeness to Offa's Dyke. Wasn't there long enough to make a proper review this is just my general opinion. would recommend pub to family and friends who wanted to explore this part of the country, perhaps for one or two nights.
The town looked nice and picturesque, was very quiet and the crown pub was the hub, I was there on a training course so was away most of the day and the crown was just my base, only downside was zero phone signal but there was good wifi at my accommodation so not a disaster.
There was a loud noise from outside the bedroom window. When I asked downstairs the member of staff had no idea. The noise went on and off intermittently so I would relax, thinking it had stopped and then it would start again. Eventually I could stand it no more, and went down and asked the lady to listen for herself. She said oh it's the fridges. I moved rooms just to be able to sleep, but it totally ruined what should have been a restful evening. By the time I had settled and relaxed it was very late. I was supposed to be continuing with my long-distance walk the next day, but was so tired I had to skip a day's walking. A bad experience. Don't book a room at the back. The evening meal wasn't good either. A tiny over-cooked burger in an over-sized bun. Very disappointing. Didn't bother with a pudding as I knew I would be disappointed.
Newcastle is a pub, and a farming area and a small number of houses and that's it, blink and you miss it, if its busy you want ,stay at clun, about 4 miles away, it has a couple of pubs and a castle ruin to explore.
A quiet village with the local inn at the centre. We found it to be quite a distance from the nearest village/town ,as there is no shop make sure you have everything you need otherwise it`s a six or seven mile journey to either Clun or Bishop`s Castle for petrol or necessities. Great place for walkers doing Offa`s Dyke Path, lots of signposts pointing the way.
