Situated in Newcastle, Cherryhill Lodge features free WiFi and mountain views, 1.7 km from Tollymore Forest Park. All units feature air conditioning and a flat-screen TV. What a wonderful way to start our vacation in No. Ireland, with Patricia and John as our hosts! They were so welcoming and helpful with information about the area and even made dinner reservations for us in Newcastle (the restaurant was terrific). They clearly enjoy interacting with guests and making them feel very special. Don't miss the full Irish breakfast with John's fresh-squeezed OJ. The rooms are very nicely appointed and the bathrooms have new fixturing - the beds were awesome, high-end bedding and extremely comfortable. We took two rooms and the two room "chalet" - everyone in our group was very happy with our choice to stay at Cherryhill Lodge and we would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Newcastle is a small town but has plenty of good pubs and restaurants, I sampled: Italian, Indian, Chinese and Traditional at the pub, all were good. The beach is excellent for walking and exploring, perhaps not for swimming, but I didn't go there for that. The town is an excellent centre for the numerous walks in the Mountains of Mourne which was the reason for my visit.
The scenery and the mountains are amazing. Newcastle has lots of lovely eateries, we ate in O Hares which was fab, also had ice cream from nugatelos whichwas really good. People really nice and friendly.
Amazing little seaside town right on our doorstep. Everything is so close and the beach is beautiful, especially on a sunny day. Lots of little cafes and boutiques to visit with lovely, friendly locals. Can’t wait to get back.
I came here especially to spend 3 nights in May 2019 Easy to reach by direct bus from Belfast Europa transport centre (£8.60 single). Lidl next to bus station for cheap shopping. Several charity shops. Lovely long promenade. Interesting modern RC church with stained glass. Fantastic views of Mourne Mountains. Ice cream parlours (I liked Maud's best but didn't visit them all). Public library with internet. Tourist information centre. I only went in one pub and luckily it was the Harbour House Inn. Real fires and GREAT music soundtrack (rock, indi etc). Soak seaweed baths (£25 for an hour in a single bathroom with steam cabinet and bath) - wonderful! Slieve Donard - it took me 3 hours to walk up slowly, and I was glad I found sticks in the woods to help me. Too bad you can't hire trekking poles in town. I went up the Glen River route and descended to Bloody Bridge. I should have hitched a lift for a mile from there towards the harbour, because it was hairy walking on the narrow busy road without a pavement. Tollymore Forest Park - I walked as there's no bus. Newcastle tourist info centre has a printout of the park. Games of Thrones filming location! Lovely rivers, bridges and bluebells in season. I spent hours rambling around and picnicking then walked back to Newcastle.
A beautiful town which has been refurbished and upgraded in recent years by walkways, car parks and play areas at the seafront. It has a beautiful beach and shoreline and also boasts lots of small shops to browse through in the Main Street. There are numerous cafes and ice cream parlours as well as hotels and restaurants to eat in, all close to the seafront.
Whats not to like about Newcastle, it has everything. stunning views and plenty to do. We ate at the Percy French which was excellent. The Slieve Donard is situated a short walk from the town which is very convenient.

The hotel is OK, but the bed was and pillows were horrible! You could feel the spring in the mattress and the pillows were flat. The location is poor with no facilities. The hotel, like every one we stayed at in the uK, is dated. I wish managenent in these places would spent some of their money on improvements! None have been cheap by US standards.

The staff was wonderful in all ways, friendly and efficient. We accidentally left our iPad in our room -- the manager popped it into a taxi and we received it an hour later in our Holywood hotel. Wow!
