FAQs about hotels in Oxford

City of Dreaming Spires

Featuring a magnificent academic heritage, Oxford is a beautiful city where Gothic spires intermingle with medieval colleges. The home to England’s oldest university, most of the 38 unique colleges are sadly only viewable from the outside. Two that you can visit are Magdalen College, considered one of the most beautiful, and Christchurch College whose quadrangle was used in the 1st Harry Potter film. Its cathedral choir also sings evensong.

Other notable colleges are Balliol and Merton, the 2 oldest, while Hertford College has the Bridge of Sighs. Next door is the cavernous Bodleian Library, overlooking the round Radcliffe Camera, the city’s best-known landmark.

The university also has a botanical garden and the best Oxford museums, including the Ashmolean Museum and Natural History Museum, where swifts nest in summer.

Unsurprisingly for a student town, it has lots of bars and restaurants. Oxford shopping is also good and includes England’s oldest covered market, brightly colored High Street shops, and the Clarendon and Westgate shopping centers.

Whether you arrive by road or fly into London Oxford Airport, don’t leave without trying Oxford punting. In contrast to rival Cambridge, you punt here by standing in the front (rather than on the back). Easily accessed from the Oxford accommodations on Booking.com, the routes take in the River Cherwell and the Isis (the name for this part of the Thames).

I loved the covered market, the colleges and the main shopping centre. We had an Ethiopian meal in the covered market. The bus services are good and there are Park & Rides so you can leave your car outside the city. Exploring Oxford is a great activity, with Pitt Rivers and the Ashmolean museums a great pull for the younger members.

We enjoyed both the city centre, visiting Christchurch College, the Botanical gardens, Oxford covered market, Natural history museumpopping into the main antique shops, going punting on the river, enjoying a sunday roast or simply walking in the city centre, admiring the many historical stone walled buildings. It's also very convenient to explore the Cotswolds. Travelling from one picturesque village to the other. Will be definitely returning for the third time!

Checking in was easy; professional and friendly, Our room...

Checking in was easy; professional and friendly, Our room was spacious and very comfortable , bed and pillows super comfy. It was a bit of a trek to breakfast as the hotel is set out on a L shape but it got us ready for our food - The breakfast choices and quality were great, every option had been thought of and catered for. The guy at breakfast reception was super friendly and cheeky too and he made us laugh. Sadly we did not get enough time too check out the pool and gym as we ended spending more time out with family that we had first thought (we were in Oxford for a wedding) We used Uber's mainly as we needed to get to a given location other than that we walked everywhere - the location of the hotel was perfect - close enough to walk but far enough out of the city to be lovely and quiet. We used the local pub at the top of the road - The Head of the Waters for dinner and the Permit room with family. Both good but very different. Check out was simple as we had prepaid.

Its a wonderful city, we had such an amazing time. There is a lot to do. I took my 5 year old and we went on so many adventures. From bookshop to museum and castles to coffeeshops. We stayed overnight for 2 nights and wished we couldve stayed longer. Highly recommend a visit.

    Absolutely a must visit!

Absolutely a must visit! The amount of history located on the campus alone is outstanding. So many pubs, restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops. Lots of walking trails. The people are friendly and helpful. Easy access to just about everything, buses going just about everywhere. Great free tour of the campus given by a student. She was wonderful, please remember to tip them, several people in our group did not and that's just wrong. There are a ton of museums that are free, don't feel you need to pay to get into everything. Also, if you a Harry Potter fan, you don't need to pay for that tour to see the places where it was filmed, several free or less expensive tours provided access.Be aware it is a bustling city, lots of traffic but don't let that deter you from at least visiting for one day. My only complaint, and this has been in several countries I've visited, there are little to no places that serve drip/filter coffee. That of course is my own pet peeve. Stay and enjoy, soak up everything the city has to offer!

Oxford is nice for anyone liking old Architecture but wasn't as lively as i thought it might be. I love flowers & gardens so visited The botanical gardens they were rather drab & brown. I know there is a hose pipe ban but not for businesses. We visited Oxford to see Diddly Squat Farm & The Farmer's Dog Pub which wasn't dissapointing.

You get what you pay for. I knew this and only wanted a bed for the night. Arrived 1pm. Let them know we had all arrived. Then went to Oxford city centre till 5.30pm. Back to hotel and then up the road for a meal. Back at 10.30 pm, tired and ready for bed. 1 nights sleep is all I needed. They gave us bowls, cereal, and milk as we were out at 7am. But declined as know where to keep the milk, overnight in hot rooms. But the thought for us was there, and we appreciate that gesture.
