An important harbour for centuries, Portsmouth counts with one of the busiest ferry piers in the United Kingdom, has the oldest dry dock still in use in the world. Its Historic Dockyard is home to famous British ships like Lord Nelson's flagship HMS Victory, the Mary Rose and the HMS Warrior.
In the picturesque Old Town you’ll find typical English pubs, coloured houses, and small independent shops. It also has a Fish Market provided by the city’s small fishing fleet. In Old Portsmouth is possible to find smaller hotels, B&B’s and guest houses, some of them not far from the ferry harbour.
The Gunwharf Quays are a modernly renovated shopping area, home to the Spinnaker Tower, while the centre has an ever-growing number of shops. Don’t miss Commercial Road and the Cascades Shopping Centre. Hotels in Portsmouth’s city centre allow you to be close to everything what the city has to offer.
For relaxing moments, Portsdown Hill allows panoramic views over the city and the Isle of Wight. During summer, its sandy beaches are a must.

A visit to the Mary Rose museum is an absolute must - it is superb albeit expensive.
This review only reflects upon Old Portsmouth, Southsea and the regenerated areas around the harbour.
There is a lot of history around here and that is the main reason for visiting. A walk along the promenade is worthwhile as is a visit to the D-Day museum. A coffee or a beer in the pubs on spice island is a must do too.

Its a great place to visit, lots of things to see, plenty f restaurants and bars, great on a nice day or evening, and a shopping mall with all kinds of shops. And 2 miles along the coast you have funfair and adventure golf in Southsea, a typical seaside town.

Beautiful place to stay .
Beautiful place to stay . The area we stayed was so clean and had a lot to see and do . So much choice for places to eat . They have been updating their coastal walk and what is finished is stunning. So many places to sit and enjoy the area around you . There is something for every age to see and do . We did the hovercraft to the Isle of Wight, which was a great day out . Loved Portsmouth and would recommend it as a place to visit and would definitely go back .

There is plenty to see, in particular around old Portsmouth & Gun Wharf Quay.
Then there’s the Spinnaker tower & shopping Center with restaurants. Although these are mainly chain restaurants.

Portsmouth & Southsea is a good mix of old & new with some lovely beaches, beautiful green spaces, waterfront bars and interesting history.
The Spinnaker Tower is recommended for spectacular views of the coast, town and Isle of Wight as well as Afternoon Tea. Gunwharf Quays for outlet shopping & dining, Southsea for the funfair, beautiful green spaces, quirky shops, bars & restaurants. The Historic Dockyard is well worth a visit, as is the old town and D Day exhibition.
You can also jump on the Hovercraft at Southsea and zip over to the IOW in 10 mins or just watching the hovercraft is an attraction in itself!
Buses are easy to navigate if you need them or if you are feeling brave there are Council run scooters for hire dotted around the town.
Great for a long weekend, don't just see Portsmouth as a gateway to the continent/IOW, it's got a lot to offer in its own right.
Pretty central and close to Portsmouth Harbour train station. Close to entertainment area Gun Wharf and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, all within a few minutes walk. A small hotel above a pub, with good pub food. Room rate was reasonable for this time of year.
Quiet area, excellent freshly cooked plentiful breakfast, friendly staff.
Good location to all parts of Southsea which is spread out. Very good 7 day per week bus service right out side the hotel & at the top of the road to all parts of Portsmouth.
Hotel was clean and comfortable, with private, secure parking (and public parking close by if necessary). Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The location is fantastic for the Historic Dockyards and Old Portsmouth, Gunwharf Quays.
The hotel was clean, the shared bathroom was also very nice and clean. The staff is very helpful and nice and I thoroughly enjoyed my time back in Portsmouth. Highly recommend!
