There is a huge amount of historical interest. Many good places to eat, starred restaurants as well as little, side street eateries. Most places can be reached on foot, the millennium trail makes a nice gentle walk. It's very lively during term time. The spinnaker tower is probably better viewed from outside rather than in!
Absolutely wonderful city. Magnificent historical past mixed with the thoroughly modern Gunwharf Quays complex. It offers a bit of everything and is our No.1 go to destination. We live in France and always look forward to our visits to lovely old Pompey.
Interesting and informative. The harbour tour was really interesting. Access to HMS Warrior, HMS Victory and a number of other exhibits. Weren't able to do the Mary Rose on this trip owing to time constraints but with the Ultimate Explorer ticket I will return. Nightlife was good. Plenty of bars and eating establishments to frequent.
An excellent, vibrant city with plenty to see, including warships in the harbour and various museums. There are also two theatres. The Historic Dockyard is well worth a visit to see the Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. Experience great views from the top of the Spinnaker Tower and dare to walk on the glass floor! Gunwharf Quays is excellent for shopping and there are plenty of places to eat. Follow the historic walkway on foot to Southsea Common and enjoy a trip on the hovercraft for a day on the Isle of Wight. Highly recommended is the The Tenth Hole tearoom in Southsea for amazing cakes.
Modern and old mixed together. Gun Wharf Quays just like any other modern shopping centre, glitzy and expensive. Plenty of places to eat and drink. Historic dock yard very interesting. HMS Warrior superb. Old Portsmouth well worth a walk around. Plenty of olde worlde atmosphere and a few good pubs. Bus services are fairly cheap. Go on "First" for cheap all day tickets. Aquarium very disappointing. D-Day museum good but could be better with a bit more space and a few more exhibits. Still good though. The embroidery room was superb. What a work of art. I enjoyed Portsmouth and would recommend it for a short break especially if you're interested in military history.
Fabulous for shopping at Gunwharf, and loads of choice of restaurants too; the historic dockyard is a fantastic experience, and if the weather is good, a boat tour of the dockyard is a must. easy access to the Isle of Wight via the hovercraft or fastcat. Fantastic public transport links, Southsea area has parks and seafront attractions.
Public House/Hotel. had a side/back entrance for us staying upstairs above the pub. stayed 2 nights and when we came back from Portsmouth Gunwharf Quays after Cocktails at All Bar One and they closed at 10pm due to Covid lack of staff, our Hotel Bar still served us another couple of rounds knowing we were staying so had a couple of nightcaps, served by the Mystery Man(he knows who he is) lol. Wendy, Michael and other staff were Very friendly and chatty and made us feel very welcome. Would stay again.
Good location, a few miles from Portsmouth Ferry. Pet friendly and free parking. The room we were allocated (269) was one of the largest rooms I have ever stayed in. Exceptionally spacious with two double beds and a sofabed. The room was at the other end of the hotel but was very quiet which is what we requested. Large bathroom with walk-in shower. Jack on reception, very pleasant, helpful and professional in his approach.
Portsmouth
The property is well located for Old Portsmouth, just behind the cathedral yet in walking distance of Southsea Common and loads of good restaurants in one direction and the Historic Dockyard in the other. Surprisingly quiet area despite being on a corner, except when the nearby school is busy. Its a modern property but nice inside. The garage is a bonus - if a touch tight for larger SUVs!
Absolutely great hotel. Amazing staff, very friendly. Excellent breakfast. Very clean room. Overall very warm hotel, smartly organised, you have everything you need. Even though it's compact we enjoyed staying there very much. Definitely going to come to Portsmouth and stay in this hotel again. Keep doing your great work. Cheers.😉🤗👌
Excellent welcome by owner, nothing was too much trouble and The Pier was a great find for exploring Portsmouth. Comfortable rooms which were spotlessly clean. Great hospitality was obvious from the moment we arrived : cannot fault this small hotel and its staff. We will definitely use again 😀.
The breakfast was very nice, and the location is perfect for a trip to Gunwharf Quays, and Portsmouth's many attractions, there was parking right next to the hotel, and the views from our room of Spinnaker Tower and one of the old ships in docks was great.
Portsmouth
We always stay here now when we visit Portsmouth. It's a fabulous, friendly, cosy hotel. The staff are amazing and the food is wonderful. It's a little gem handy for the Dockyard, Gunwharfe Quays, Harbour Station, ferry terminals and the main town.
Great location near the dockyard and visitor attractions. Also lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Staff at the hotel were great and made the stay very enjoyable. Great view from the room over the harbour
The hotel is in a good location for Southsea and Portsmouth. You can walk to most places or there are local buses close by. Breakfast is good and very well organised. The children really enjoyed the swimming pool.
Located within Gunwharf shopping centre , near to harbour and historic ship this hotel is perfect for exploring Portsmouth. Standard Holiday Inn with everything you need, clean , comfortable and good staff.
The reception staff were very polite and helpful- expedited our access to clean cutlery ware even for takeaway orders that did not come from the hotels own kitchen
The accommodation (room) was comfortable albeit very small and compact. The hotel is very central and the breakfast excellent.
very clean, bright, lovely breakfast,2 mins from Portsmouth Harbour and 5 mins from Gunwharf Quays, large room.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel clean and tidy

When travelling with more than 2 kids it is challenging to find reasonable priced places to stay. This one was very good in that respect! Staff were also very friendly and told us all we needed to know about the suroundings! Well done!
Funky decor and a farewell gift of water and muesli for the road was a nice touch. Shower piping hot and plenty of water. Bus at the door to the historic port area.
Great hotel. Loved the traditional feel with s twist of modern. Great staff. We had the most romantic break. Would recommend
