Sadly, I can't comment on the breakfast. We left at 6 am to catch the ferry. However, the drive to the ferry was short and easy, roughly 20 minutes. The room was spacious and well-decorated. Good reading lights, roomy bathroom, convenient little frig. Wonderful staff. Restauant was good for dinner and it allowed for our free parking.

We stayed for one night at the Florence Suite Boutique Hotel...

We stayed for one night at the Florence Suite Boutique Hotel. Although the standard room with shower was comfortable, the bathroom was very small. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was excellent, and the mushroom tagliatelle was superb. We did have a walk out around the area, which brought us ten minutes away to a variety of pubs and shops, stopped for a drink at The Vaults, the beer I can report from my husband was very good.

Portsmouth has a wide variety of interesting places to visit but I wouldn't describe it as a seaside holiday resort. It is a city. Southsea front has museums but the beach is rather stony and wouldn't be to everyones' taste.

We came to Portsmouth for a specific sailing event - SailGP - over two days. Also excellent opportunity to visit Naval Dockyard with Explorer Pass being great value for money. We were mostly around Gunwharf Quay, along seafront to Southsea Common and at Naval Dockyard - impressed by how clean streets in these areas were.

For me, this is a very special Holiday Inn, located within the beautiful Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth. This modern hotel is surrounded by great shopping and many restaurants and “happening bars.” It is walking distance from Portsmouth Historic Dockyards and close to the train station. I found the Client Management Staff (Dan) service to be amazing and above my expectations. I highly recommend Holiday Inn Gunwharf as excellent value for money and a great place to stay in Portsmouth.

Cooked breakfast disappointed as poached eggs were hard and scrambled eggs similar. Helpful pleasant staff and cleanliness good. Furniture a bit tired in the room. Sea facing rooms have terrific views and the hotel is less than 5 minutes from the Historic Dockyard and 10 minutes from the huge Quays shopping centre within easy walk where you will find many restaurants and bars. Opposite is the Portsmouth Harbour train station, bus station and ferries so transport is easy.

Located literally just outside the Historic Dockyard and a 5-8 minute walk to the Harbour train station, Gosport ferry, the catamaran ferry and Gunwharf Quays. Staff were friendly and helpful and a decent breakfast selection in the morning. Hotel was also kept clean throughout. The swimming pool and jacuzzi was also a nice touch, after a day of traveling and exploring the dockyard.

A clean, quiet hotel about a mile from the city centre. We took a lot of taxi's because it was a good walk to the harbour front and historic naval museum. We thought that there was a pub underneath our room but it is no longer open so a good half hour walk to a decent pub. Its OK if you're looking for somewhere quiet. The rooms were OK and bathroom very small but clean.
