A nice market town ideally placed as a base for walking in the Elan Valley. Fair selection of pubs offering good food and a very good Indian restaurant offering eat in and take away options. Our visit was out of the main holiday season and this was reflected in the town being very quiet during the evenings
The local facilities were really good and also the local people. Everybody is always polite and very welcoming and when you have been a few times they get to know you. The accommodation that we stopped in 2 Bear Barn is excellent and the hosts were really friendly and anything you wanted was provided. Spotless house and good parking.
I've been staying here since the late 90s , it's a nice place ideal for a trip around the dams to see some lovely scenery. It's a shame so many pubs have gone since then, there used to be so many more.
Rhayader is an excellent location, so much to do. We arrived on the Friday, went to Gilfach Nature reserve, Saturday was Powis castle and Hafren Forest. Sunday Devils bridge via the B5474 which is also the national cycle route if you're feeling fit, and Kite feeding at 3pm. It's also a designated dark skies area in the Elan Valley and the night skies are beautiful. There is such a sense of space. Wonderful place to get away from it all.
Rhayader is a lovely town, situated in a beautiful area. Unfortunately, it is also a main thoroughfare for lorries in Wales and the traffic was ridiculous. Lorries thundering through continuously ALL day and during the night too.
Very friendly locals. Lots of pubs and restaurants to choose from. We ate at The Crown. Food and service were wonderful. We had a pint in The Castle. It’s quite a locals pub but everyone was friendly and we felt very comfortable. Great pint of Brains Bitter. Happy atmosphere. We loved this pub. Rhayader is not only a great base to explore the Cambrian Mountains but there are lots of short easy walks in and around the Town with Nature reserves nearby.

Excellent location in the centre of Rhayader, near to the main co-op store. Parking was no problem as the property had its own allocated parking space. The Elan Valley was just down the road. The accommodation was very new, with a bright and airy open plan kitchen diner and lounge. The bedroom and bathroom were sparkling. You have to provide your own towels which is no problem as we were informed of this up front.

The property is set amidst beautiful scenery. The area is very quiet, but the nearest town is only a few minutes drive away. The lodge itself is nicely decorated and was very well heated, which was appreciated for our November stay. The hot tub is a bit small for 4 people, but didn’t stop our use of it. One of our party has mobility issues but had minimal difficulty in getting in and out of the hot tub.

Very good breakfast. Host left out plates & cutlery for us to eat our takeaways with , which was very helpful. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again for sure.
