Located 5 minutes’ drive from the County Durham coastline, The Seaton Lane Inn - The Inn Collection Group features free on-site parking and is just over 10 miles from Durham city center. Everything. The hotel was beautiful. The staff went above and beyond throughout our stay, from our welcome to our wonderful evening meal, the quiz (which is a must), the comfy family rooms - which were so quiet and we loved that you are seperate from the main hotel/resturant. The breakfast was also delicious. We can't wait to book and stay again.

Sunderland (Near Seaham)
Located in Sunderland, a 16-minute walk from Seaham Beach and 4.2 miles from Stadium of Light, Sea Glass Cottage provides accommodations with amenities such as free WiFi and a flat-screen TV. Such a lovely little cottage .. had everything we needed .. we will definitely be coming back xxx
Like everyone else, we went for the seaglass! But the people of the area are great. Cheerful, helpful and talkative. We got chatting to others who were hunting glass, walking dogs, there for the view, and just really enjoyed meeting others. We were spoilt for choice on places to eat, and left with a lot more to visit - The Glass Centre 20 miles away has to be next.
Nice town with very friendly local people. Good beaches and opportunities to swim in the sea. Beaches - sand and stones - were free of litter. Easy to park (free) near beaches. A town with a family vibe.
Seaham is a small, well kept seaside town. Not touristy in any way but has a good variety of cafes/restaurants/bars along the front. The small marina has a few shops and places to eat and is a short downhill walk, as is the beach which is known for collecting sea glass pebbles. There are lots of benches dotted around and plenty of parking. We parked for free in the lovely square near the impressive Tommy sculpture which is a good central spot.
Seaham has a few great places to eat . We ate at the lamp room which is a tapas bar and restaurant and it was very good friendly staff and great food. Had breakfast at clean bean and again very good interesting menu.
Definitely the Mecca of all sea glass hunters, but Seaham has lots of other things to offer too. Most people know of "Tommy", but there are lots of other sculptures and artworks and a lot of attention to detail to be found throughout the town. Plenty take-aways and restaurants to choose from, a wealth of local history and Durham and Newcastle are within easy reach too.
In terms of what I experienced is that there is the beach but currently not much else for a family. So I would recommend staying in Sunderland or Newcastle and it is easy to go by car or train to Seaham and go to the beach to hunt for sea glass (check tides though as you dont want to go at high tide) and then you have more options to do with kids or to explore when not on the beach.
