Located in Ashbourne in the Derbyshire region, Shirley Lane features a patio and garden views. A beautiful peaceful location with wonderful views, shame that the windows were too high to really enjoy the views without going outside. Lots of 'little extras' which made our stay even more comfortable and enjoyable.
The varied menu was good and the quality of the food and service was excellent. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. On the negative side the establishment was clearly in need of investment and increased maintenance to ensure that both electrical and bathroom fittings are in working order.
Didn't like the hotel, room was unclean. The bathroom smelt and was dirty. Didn't use the shower as I didn't want to get in it, horrible. The room needs to be decorated. We had noisy kids running up and down corridors.
English breakfast is the best I've had and for only for £7 including good coffee and fresh orange juice. Also had steak and Stilton pie was delicious and chicken lollipops on kids menu were excellent. All cooked fresh. Good selection of wines also, we will be back again!!!
This was one of those really feel-good moments for our stay. We had all the things we asked for, adjoining rooms and the inn was dog friendly. The hospitality was great, food was excellent and freshly cooked. The rooms were comfortable and more than adequate. We were so pleased, that we booked the same rooms as a treat for our return home journey, to stay and enjoy the extra night to our holiday.
We liked very much the set with the Lodges at The Yew Tree. Particularly the set with the self-service Continental breakfast for the early starters and also the lodges being separate from the bar noises. We found the pizza oven in the main bar very unusual and the choice of toppings very interesting. We were only there for two nights and visited Ashbourne and went on a 6 mile walk at Dovedale and then across the fields to Ilam.
