Southport is beautiful Victorian splendor! We used to holiday here as kids, and it holds many happy memories. It is nice to see so many original features and attractions, alongside modernisation. A great British seaside resort!
Southport is a lovely seaside town and handy to get a Metro card for travel even into Liverpool for sightseeing etc. Just be very carful as to which hotel you choose to stay in. There are a number of good restaurants to choose from, be mindful to book a table in busy periods to avoid disappointment. There was entertainment on at the lakeside bar which was good.
Southport has good transport links to Liverpool and Preston. There are a fair amount of shopping facilities but it is noticeable that quite a number of businesses have closed down. Good place to explore by foot as there is a huge lake to walk round.
It would be ok, but many attractions are not open out of season except at weekends. Eg. Model Village, which would be a great attraction for older people who tend to visit through the week. Apart from being a bit unkempt, it is a nice place overall. The local council could attract more visitors if they gave it a little bit more care.
Southport was a lovely place ideal for all ages. Plenty of facilities for all. Shops were good. Plenty of benches to sit down for a rest All in all a good break away with my mum who’s 78, she loved it, next time we will hire a mobile scooter for her before we get there.
