I can't tell you much as I was using Southport as a base to visit Nature Reserves in the area. The holiday season was over but it was still quite busy. There area has a diverse selection of Pubs, Restaurants, Cafe's, Shops etc., to cater for all tastes and budgets. "Lord Street is the main shopping street of Southport, in Merseyside. It is 1 mile (1.6 km) long, with a roundabout marking each end of the street. There are many water features, gardens and architectural buildings along the entire street, with a mix of residential, commercial and public buildings. It was laid out in the early 19th century". Visited from 2010 to 2019 and had wonderful holidays. Sadly Southport is looking tired. Lord Street used to be lovely but it's now mainly charity shops or empty shops. Homeless sleeping in doorways. The promenade and gardens are lovely. Excellent play area for kids. The pier has been closed for a while and when we were there we heard there had been a fire the day before. It's not particularly dog friendly. Windmill pub does good pub food. There are two retail parks with the usual shops but that takes you away from the main area of Lord Street. Southport has some of the most fantastic Victorian buildings...
Southport has some of the most fantastic Victorian buildings of anywhere I've been in England. Anyone interested in architecture, it's a must. As with all these places some parts are a bit tired, but you can imagine what it once would have been. There's some nice Bars up the top end of Lord Street, which is the main broad Avenue, with an exceptional Korean restaurant, The Korean Kitchen - absolutely fantastic. Southport is a lovely place to visit . We really enjoyed our stroll along Lord street and it was a nice atmosphere with lots of cafes, bars , and people enjoying food and drinks outside, Large selection of places to eat Chinese , Indian , mexican good old fish and chips , and we found a beautiful place that did the most amazing afternoon tea. They need to get the pier back open.
They need to get the pier back open. There is plenty to do for the kids. But when I used to visit when I was younger the shops on lord street were the best. All very elite. Even the few charity shops. It’s now so upsetting to see them all shut up . I know it’s like a lot of places. But this is a seaside place with lots of visitors.
