Good things about Stevenage is that it is only a short train journey to London approx 20 mins. Not a fantastic variety of shops but you have supermarket Asda on your doorstep and a Wetherspoons if you don't want to cook breakfast. Fairlands Valley is a place you should visit a short drive away. Evenings out should be to discover the many pubs in The Old Town.
We spent 5 nights here using it as a base to explore London (multiple fast trains leave from Stevenage to London daily - very convenient), Cambridge (on the main train line) and a short drive to Oxford and Windsor. Perfect place to use as a base but not fantastic to visit in own right although the town has an excellent walking and bike path through out the town. Very easy to walk around all of it including easy access to the train station.
Stevenage is a town in decline, as witness the proliferation of rough sleepers in the town centre, and the neglected infrastructure; but there's nothing that a motivated local authority and imaginative town planning couldn't rectify. Having lived in Stevenage from 1980 - 1997, I have only happy memories of the town, and I'm sorry to witness its decline. Having said that, I always feel comfortable when I visit, and the local people are decent, and down to earth.
The old town is lovely, try out the Standing Order Pub for a great evening meal deal. Some interesting shops, bars and Cafe's too. The new town has the big brand shops but only with new town charm. Excellent links to London if required.
The Old Town has a lot of places to eat and coffee shops. The Town Centre although some parts are now a bit run down, there are still plenty of shops and coffee shops. It's a shame that bhs has closed, as it such a large empty shop.
I used to live here so visit occasionally to visit friends and meet up in Stevenage`s old town that has some decent bars and eateries. The Mulberry is a good place for drinks and cocktails and does a good range of pub food and seemed very popular on an early Saturday evening.

Spacious, immaculately clean and very well laid out. The apartment was the perfect place to stay on a business trip, much nicer than a hotel room, especially as a lone traveller for business. It was two mins from the station and next door to a huge Tesco so after a late arrival I could walk to get some food and not worry about wandering around late at night. There is everything you need to cook, eat comfortably and relax. This is the best place I have stayed in a year with lots of travelling and I will certainly use it again.

It is the cheapest option in and around Stevenage if you need a home away from home. You can cook your own meals and be more independent that way.
