Hotel in Stoke-by-Nayland
Boasting wonderful views across the Stour and Box river valleys, this privately owned inn is set on a hill in the picturesque village of Stoke-by-Nayland, on the Essex and Suffolk border. Two young colleagues stayed and were very happy with their comfortable surroundings. One stated it was like being on holiday and the other said he was surprised it was only a 3*.

Incredible pub, great food and nice service. Very attentive staff. Rooms very clean and well set out. Every comfort you could want. This is exactly what a pub should be however so many pubs fall below the standard that Angel Inn achieves so flawlessly!
Lots of places to see and things to do, the villages and towns in the local area are all very picturesque. There is a plethora of walking opportunities with many circular walks in the vicinity and further afield. There's also many interesting villages and places with a long history to visit and enjoy. The roads can be slightly tricky at times so a bike would be useful for getting around smaller villages and narrow lanes. There's also a bus service connecting Stoke by Nayland to Sudbury and beyond which we would have made use of if we were staying longer. Lavenham, Long Melford, Flatford Mill are all close by as well as other beautiful villages.
The nearby farmhouse B&B accommodation was excellent, and Stoke by Nayland has two excellent pub/restaurants for meals in the evenings. Like most Suffolk villages the streets are narrow so care is needed to negotiate parked cars.
A stunning, tucked away yet easily accessible AONB that I wish I'd discovered years ago. A wonderful area for walks, messing about on the river and hiding from the modern world. There are some lovely places to visit and eat - we enjoyed eating at the Angel Inn, the Golf & Spa hotel and at Mimosa just inside Colchester.
it was a nice little village with pathways around the church and over the fields-so great if you enjoy walking and exploring. we ate at the Angel where we were staying but there is also another hotel in the village if you fancy a change. we mixed with the locals who were very friendly indeed and recommended that we should visit Nayland and also Polstead, which we did.We also went to Flatford Mill and had an enjoyable walk along the river.
Stoke by Nayland is a pretty village. It has the advantage of two really good places to eat and stay. The Crown is exceptional, it is privately owned with a loyal and committed staff who are obviously very well trained. Such high standards and attention to detail speaks of excellent management. The Angel is also a good place to eat and stay. It is a beautiful old building which is of historical interest. The staff are efficient and welcoming but the overall feel is somewhat cooperate. We struggle to find anything that compares favourably to either establishment in our area, hence our frequent visits to Stoke by Nayland..

A really warm welcome, a beautiful location, lovely room and fantastic breakfast. We had a nice country walk followed by a super dinner in a local hotel and a great night's sleep in a very comfy bed. Poplars Farmhouse is a great base for walking in the local area and is very comfortable and exceptionally clean. Some very nice touches at breakfast with home made preserves and varied vegetarian choices. We would highly recommend Poplars Farmhouse.
Breakfast was really good as well as the hotel. Would highly recommend the hotel. Room tidy and modern with a comfy feel. Good size room also. Bar staff very friendly and pub garden was a very good size.
