This town is central to the Cotswolds - it fills up with tourists by eleven o'clock and I would plan to be out of the town by then exploring the countryside. We have a superb meal at the Porch Pub down the road from our accommodation.
We loved Stow on the Wold On the first day we walked into the town but the traffic on the busy main road was not pleasant So we drove after and parked the car on the outskirts . Loved the variety of shop’s cafe’s and general ambiance.
Great place to stay, We booked a room at the Stag, must mention Dawn one of the ladies that served us at breakfast, what an asset she is, cheerful, friendly, eyes like a hawk, coming over with coffee refills before we had chance to ask. She really made us feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Stow itself has lots of shops for the wife and many restaurants, we tried 4 of them. Some interesting walks around the outskirts as well.
Beautiful little town. Independent shops to browse around. Plenty of places to eat, The Old Stocks is a must for a meal - lovely place, excellent food. The Old Bakery serves the best cream tea ever. Lots of lovely places to visit nearby . - Burford, Morton in Marsh, Burton -on - the - water and many more. If you're into William Morris it's a must to go an extra few miles and visit Kelmscott Manor where William Morris lived for many years.
A lovely old town, easy to walk around with plenty of choices to eat out.Table reservations essential in the pubs and restaurants even for a drink . A very busy street runs directly outside the property we stayed at so there is some street noise and parking seemed to be a daily challenge around the town. We ate at The Kings Arms and The Porch House and both places followed stringent Covid best practices so felt safe. Food was good in both but The Porch House was our favourite.
Stow on the Wold is a picturesque Cotswold market town full of historic buildings, take time to look at the facades of the hotels and rows of cottages with their tiny front doors and quaint windows. There are lots of individual shops which make for Interesting browsing, when your feet get tired you can rest them in one of the many tea shops or pubs! It’s an ideal place to stay and a perfect base for accessing other towns and gardens in the area.

Stow on the Wold
The owners are so kind and hospitable. The property was all so lovely: the gardens outside, the house and our room. Our room was clean & comfortable, as was the private bathroom. Convenient location just a short walk from central Stow. Breakfast was delicious with many choices--and the dining room was set so beautifully. We wish we could have stayed longer!
