Located in town center of Stranraer, The Royal Hotel features a beer garden and bar. Stranraer train station is a 10-minute walk away and the Stena and P&O ports are located nearby. The room was absolutely beautiful such a stunning little hotel hidden away in a quiet little pub!
Ideally located on Stranraer seafront, overlooking Loch Ryan and just 5 minutes' walk from the town center and train station, this family-run guest house offers free Wi-Fi, ample, free, off-street... Everything was great except for the bed...not comfortable.
Windsor house is located in Stranraer, a 10-minute walk from Stranraer Beach and 2.7 miles from Innermessan. The superior family room is so comfortable, the whole building is clean and fresh. The hosts are amazing, very friendly and recommended places to eat for us. Exceptional value and great location to catch the ferry to Ireland 😊
Brier Brae Bed & Breakfast is set in Stranraer on the sea front, with views over Loch Ryan. The property is located 5.6 mi from Portpatrick and 6.8 mi from the ferry port. Brendan is a very nice host. Breakfast was amazing (best omelette and scrambled eggs we ever had in a long time!!). Room was quite ample and comfortable, the tea and coffee little service table in the room had a wide variety of teas. Room and house decor was cute. Overall a very good experience, and we will repeat gladly if we are around the area
Stranraer is a run down town and offers rather little of itself. However, it is a convenient place from which to explore the region, notably the port villages on the West and some stunning gardens. There are a great number of trails to walk, including the Southern Upland Way. We didn't find any exceptional eateries in the town but had greater success in the surrounding region.
We only had an overnight stay as we were visiting friends. Plenty of shops, but honestly didn't spend much time in Stranraer as we were being taken sightseeing in surrounding areas. Scenery was beautiful and loads of wee villages to visit.
The most perfect stay for myself, my partner and our dog pip. We were greeted on arrival and shown around the beautiful house. The sea front is on the doorstep, 2 minute walk away. We spent our evening relaxing on the balcony, just admiring the view and relaxing. Breakfast was beautiful. 15/20 minute drive to the port. The host made our stay perfect & we felt so safe and at home there. Couldn’t recommend enough! Thank you for a perfect stay.
We only stayed here overnight as we got off the ferry late and were travelling north the next day. We had a walk in the evening along the pier which was lovely. In the morning we strolled through the town, popping into a few shops. The highlight was the castle in the square, a restored tower house. There's plenty to see, lots of kids displays and activities, and the view from the top is terrific. The steps are difficult for anyone with mobility issues. However, we loved it and it's free! Don't bother with the donuts from the place across from it, treat yourself instead from the delightful cafe next door. Quite pricey but worth it!
Stranraer is a handy place to stay in order to catch an early ferry from Cairnryan, or arriving off one in the evening. It's not a tourist destination in itself, and it doesn't offer fine restaurants or gastro-pubs. But it may be easier to get accomodation here than in Cairnryan itself. If you don't need to be close to the ferry there is the whole of glorious Galloway to choose nice places to stay, and beautful sights to see.
Ordinary small town, nothing much to recommend it apart from its location close to the ferry ports for the crossing to Ireland (which is why we were there). Had a great early evening special at the Itallian restaurant, Landos, on Hanover Street, just across the road from the hotel.
The location is perfect, quiet with stunning views. Ideal for either popping into Stranraer for something to eat/drink, or local shops, also ideally located if your planning to catch the ferry to Ireland, and what a stop over first. The rooms are well laid out, with plenty of thought given to presentation, also having plenty of storage space, and the breakfast is fantastic with plenty of choices depending on what you want
. The staff are brilliant. Helpful, friendly. Good food and drink at a reasonable price. Very clean. Dog friendly. Flooring in the bedroom is nice laminate not old carpet that you find in lots of dog hotel rooms. Easy quick way out for dog to go for a wee . And I just loved the atmosphere of the place due staffs happy natural manners. . Very good night sleep . Early night . Highly recommended especially with your dog.
Brendan and Nicola made us very welcome. We were given the Loch Ryan view room, which was vacant for two of our nights stay. This really made our stay special,as the room has lovely views. The breakfasts were tasty, I recommend trying the Mexican Eggs. The area around the Galloway Peninsula was stunning. So quiet, near empty beaches, free carparks. Certainly a place to return too.
We were on the early ferry and needed a place to stay the night before. The hotel is situated right on the seafront with free parking on the road outside. The host was very welcoming and advised us where to go and eat. Always a must. Breakfast the next morning was excellent. Cooked to order. It was excellent value for money too
Hotel all good; location, room, staff, facilities, food, Covid aware. Great place to stay, while away an evening before catching the ferry to Ireland the following morning. Great value for money, delightful staff.
Comfortable room in a peaceful area. The room had all the facilities one would need. Our room had a panoramic view over the bay. Very good breakfast. Friendly owner. Lovely walk nearby.
Friendly staff. Very good location. Excellent breakfast. Although we hadn't booked for dinner, hotel was able to accommodate us. Everything felt very COVID secure.
Central location, has a parking space. Nice place to 'just crash' for a night. Many restaurants nearby.
