Located in town center of Stranraer, The Royal Hotel features a beer garden and bar. Stranraer train station is a 10-minute walk away and the Stena and P&O ports are located nearby. Some 5star hotels I’ve done over the years could take a lesson from this hotel. Had to leave early for personal reasons but, welcoming, great locals in the communal bar, treated like a friend, can’t fault anything! Central location, cheery and fun. Top stuff!
Stranraer
Ideally located on Stranraer seafront, overlooking Loch Ryan and just 5 minutes' walk from the town center and train station, this family-run guest house offers free Wi-Fi, ample, free, off-street... The decor was better than in the picture. Everything else was as shown. It was a spotless B&B and the breakfast was made to order and was very good.

Set in Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway region, Windsor house is located 2625 feet from Stranraer Beach. The guest house has family rooms. The pictures did not do justice to this excellent accommodation. We had the family room on the top floor which was exceptionally clean and equipped for our short stay in Stranraer. The shower room was one of the best we have encountered around the world and the bed very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and there is plenty of on street parking.

Stranraer is a nice town - not as many shops as large cities but enough for all your needs. Plenty supermarkets. Portpatrick is excellent for restaurants snd rugged scenery. Wigtown is wonderful for book lovers. Logan Botanic Gardens is worth a visit.
Unfortunately a run down town with no decent pubs or restaurants that we could find hence why we ate in the hotel. It is small enough to walk round in a short stroll but not a picturesque place. Wouldn't go back.
We used to go abroad each summer, then along came Covid! When holidays abroad were back on the cards I said absolutely not! We were going to visit Scotland and have breaks away in our own country. Stranraer is 2h drive from our house. Its a lovely town. Agnew Park is well kitted out, with the likes of zip slide, swings, seesaw, and a train that takes you round the whole place. Stranraer has Tesco, Lidil, Farmfoods for all your groceries. Sandhead beach is a 15min drive, which is delightful... we went 3 times :-) the tide was out 200m+ . The waters here are shallow and beach was not busy (weather sunny 25" tmperatures ) Theres a lovely tranquil forest walk at Aldouran Wetland Gardens. For those not shy of walking uphill. A surprise for us was the Gruffalo statue at the beginning/wood area :-) Stay'cations have alot to offer. No long flights, delays The whole house, lodge to yourselves. Not just a hotel room. British TV, wifi, 22" not unbearable 42"+ All inclusive in Turkey with Waterpark on tap was fabulous each year but they days are gone.
place is ideal for the Stena and P.O ferries, whether you are holidaying or travelling to Northern Ireland, has a Tesco's, ate at the local Restaurant The Custom House, cannot say more being as we only stayed overnight
We enjoyed our weekend away here, however, have to say that there is not much to do locally. There is a small beach, a park & ferry port. We had a lovely meal at a Henry’s & a few drinks at The Custom House. Stranraer is a great base if you want to visit Port Patrick, Port Logan, Drummore or Mull of Galloway- all are short drive away.
Stranraer is a place you can visit anytime of year & made welcome, the people are friendly & chatty , plenty things to keep you busy & we always visit the custom house for food & drink & never disappointed , Charlotte (manageress) & team of staff are always there to provide a first class service for you. Deffo value for money on food & drinks. Look forward to our next stay.
Stranraer
We loved our stay at the Lakeview. The owners were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was lush and I wanted to run away with their ceramic crockery set! A very authentic Scottish guesthouse. Easy access to the P&O and Stena Line ferries (we went on a day trip to Belfast with Stena line), 10-15 min drive, not sure what the train link is but there's a train station nearby the hotel. Lovely location. On-road parking right outside the guesthouse.
Stranraer
Brandon and Nicola have done a wonderful job of decorating their beautiful old home, located right on the sea. It's light, airy, comfortable and clean. Wifi worked well. They are gracious and friendly hosts. We also enjoyed walking through the old harbor town of Stranraer, where there's a little lake with swans and palm trees (!) and good playgrounds for kids.
Stranraer
Owner was very friendly and greeted us at the door. Had great conversation and a warm welcome. The room itself was clean and comfortable. Bathroom was nice, complimentary shampoo and conditioner supplied in room was a good touch. The location was ideal for our trip so would recommend if travelling over via boat to the Cairnryan/Stranraer area.
The location is gorgeous - this property is located in very relaxing surroundings. The kids loved the black sheep/ the walks. Some of the views near the beach and on the mountain (hill?) are stunning. Portpatrick is a charming town. The Galloway Smokehouse/ Galloway Fisherman Cafe is an absolute gem - highly recommended.

Brilliant location if you have a car. Stranraer is a couple of miles away for food shopping, and south is some fabulous little towns like Portpatrick. The scenery was amazing, and the cottage is very near the Southern Uplands Way walking route.
Hotel all good; location, room, staff, facilities, food, Covid aware. Great place to stay, while away an evening before catching the ferry to Ireland the following morning. Great value for money, delightful staff.
Stranraer
Location was excellent, facing the park and sea, owner (Emma) lives nearby, internet 30MB and reliable, good kitchen equipment, Tesco 5 min walk, town centre 2 min walk, beds good.

The Lodge was large, exceptionally well appointed and exceptionally clean. The location was very isolated with only a second lodge and the owners farm nearby.
