We loved the quaintness and charm of the town .Its definitely worth a visit.Sadly the museum was closed at the time we arrived but we did enjoy Fiddleford Manor and visit to the local mill, not to mention walking along the local river/s. We dined in Sweet Pea restaurant- excellent, and went to a concert held at the local theatre "The Exchange"all very good and well supported. A great place to visit for a short break.
This was a last minute booking for just one night. We had a small double which had a very good bathroom and beautiful view over the garden - number 2. We didn’t dine there but had a delicious pudding from the trolley and a fantastic bottle of dessert wine. The owners were extremely accommodating and friendly. We will go back to stay for longer.
A lovely little town with some great independent shops. Check out the amazing Beads With A Twist shop where you can buy amazing beads etc to make your own creation, learn how to make silver jewelery or buy individual handmade pieces. Try Commins, the utterly fantastic traditional oriental teashop where you can sit and relax and learn all about the blends of tea imported by the couple who run the business. There are English teashops too, gift shops, a wonderful fabric warehouse as well. There is a trailway which is brilliant for walkers, cyclists, runners and adventurers! The surrounding countryside is beautiful.
This property isn't really in Sturminster Newton. Fiddleford has a lovely old manor( English Heritage) . It is a couple of miles outside Sturminster. The nearby pub looked pleasant and has a good menu. I heard no noise at all from the pub.
Picturesque little town with attractive buildings, quaint cottages and lovely little tea shops. We had coffee in The Stur of the Moment and lunch in Joshua's cafe where the goats cheese salad was delicious! We had a walk over the bridge to the old mill which was closed but is apparently open to the public over the summer months. All in all a pretty little town which is worth a visit.
Based ourselves in Sturminster Newton whilst we visited the north Dorset area. Very rural area with small villages and towns made famous by Thomas Hardy as bucolic settings for his novels. It's a quiet area and more a mooching holiday sort of place. Plan your walks to include some of the really good tea rooms and pubs in the area...you get the picture! Check opening times as some places are closed part days. Coast is about an hour away so if you want a change it's not too far.
