As I had nit visited Sunderland for many years and was there to put my husbands ashes in his mother's grave this does not really apply to me. In the town centre of course I found many things had changed but some sites were still familiar. There were not many good restaurants to choose for an evening meal.

We had a pleasant stay at Sunderland Hotel.

We had a pleasant stay at Sunderland Hotel. It’s a nice, affordable hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Their prices are also very competitive. I enjoyed a nice shower in very clean facilities. I would definitely stay again in future. It has many local shops within walking distance too. The location is great.

We were visiting family so that was why we visited easy to get around we got the train to Newcastle which was easy. Cafe at the Roker beach was good would be nice if someone opened earlier 7:00am for the people who get up early.

We did not go into Sunderland.

We did not go into Sunderland. Seaburn was sufficient for the short stay that we had. A few nice restaurants. We visited the Tram Shelter and would highly recommend it, although they might have limited opening hours during winter. We missed out on trying North at the opposite end of the long easy walked beach or prom . The Seaburn Inn is probably every day regardless of season.

We visited Sunderland to attend a Bruce Springsteen concert, Decided to stay the day before as well as the night after, Very mixed thoughts on our stay,The shopping centre was nice and friendly. Going out for tea was another matter! Whilst having a drink before tea in a town centre bar my Daughter was verbally abused by a local man which became problematic. However other venues were much nicer. After the concert we walked through the town and stopped for a drink which was very relaxed. Mowbray park is beautiful and peaceful even at midnight

This hotel is a great location If you're visiting for the beach or the Stack, it's in walking distance to a number of restaurants and bars. A bit further up the coast are more cafes/bars and Sunderland is a short Uber away. The main reception was very clean. The parking was handy and free.

Having participated in the GNR, the hotel allowed guests who’d stayed the night before, to leave their car in the car park and return for a shower. This generosity was greatly appreciated and would be enough to make me stay again if I ever return to Sunderland.
